I bought and tried for his last feeding - Playtex Avance.  He seemed to be more content with this type of venting system but I really don't like the bottle style - mixing formula separately and him not being able to hold his bottle when he's older.  He also leaked like a sieve, I even used the slow flow.  Is this because of the smaller nipple?  None of the stores in town sell the Dr. Browns that everyone seems to rave about and I don't want to invest more $ in a bottle that he might not take too.  Any thoughts or advice?

They are great, aren't they? Wonderful shape (DS never had nipple confusion or didn't want the bottle, so is that bottle confusion  ??? ), easy to use, easy to clean... Never leaked either. And DS never had bad wind, ever... that anti-colic-system seems to work.

Which NUK bottles are you using.  With our dd we used Gerber bottles with NUK ortho nipples but I've never actually seen a NUK bottle in stores here.

Don't get me started about Avent bottles!!!

I had such a disasterous time with them that I have banished them all to the loft!

When I used avent bottles no matter how hard I tried to screw them up properly they used to allow milk to pour down the bottle all over me and all over William. He used to end up soaked through after a feed and needed changing. The milk also used to end up all frothy as the so called anti colic feature channelled all of the air through the milk.. so William's colic and wind actually got worse!
Finally the teats were so hard that poor Will coudn't latch on properly and milk would dribble right out of his mouth and again all over him.

I used to joke that instead of battling to feed him it would be easier just to tip the milk all over him!

I changed bottles to Dr Browns (B-free) and instantly we had no leaking, no dribbling and far less wind.

I know its expensive but for your sanity I would change bottles xxx

I'm with you. I HATE Avent solid bottles. They leak sooooo bad and they also cause a LOT of gas and discomfort for my DD so we wont be using them next time around.

The Disposables however are not bad at all, no leaks and less gas and fast flow for when she got older. I bought the sippy cup nipple converter for my disposables and DD will FINALLY take a sippy cup!!

we use the wide neck bottles (not standard teats). I have only had good experiences with them, but only with the silicone teats... Although latex is better for the transfer from nipple to bottle but afterwards I would switch to silicone because it lasts longer and doesn't "collapse" while sucking

I had the same problem with the Advent bottles, leaking all the time until a friend told me that in the instructions it mentions not to screw them on tight only screw them on firm. The bottles are made in such a way that they allow a certain amount of air into the bottle when the LO is drinking, however when they are screwed on too tight air cannot get in and they leak.

Oh no!  You all are worrying me!  My LO has been on the Playtex drop-ins since 2 1/2 weeks of life and I just decided to switch to Avent.  No reason other than we got tired of purchasing the drop-in liners.  I have noticed though that it's harder for him to burp with the Avent bottles but it could be something else.
