Need help with 13 week old
« on: July 02, 2006, 15:59:45 pm »
We've been doing EASY since 6 weeks and it's working well for the most part.  She's transitioning naturally to 3.5 hr schedule and our days are going well.  Up until 2 weeks ago, she would go to sleep around 8:30-9:00pm, sleep 6 hours, eat, then sleep a few hours and get up at 7:00am.  We went on a trip for a week and the schedule continued even though we were all in one hotel room.

Since we've gotten home, however, everything has fallen apart at night.  She goes to sleep at 8:00pm (can't do any earlier because of my toddler's schedule) and I've introduced the dreamfeed at 10:00pm. Now she's up at 1:00am, 3:00am. 5:00am, 6:00am, 7:00am.  I've tried to settle her at the earlier waking by rewrapping the swaddle, shh/pat, rocking even, but she wants to eat.  I thought it was a growth spurt, but this has been going on for a week.

She's sucking her hands a lot and just rolled over a few time the other day.  I find her sticking her legs up in the air a lot when she sleeps and is very restless from 5:00am - 7:00am.  She's BF with a formula bottle for DF.  I'm tempted to drop the DF because it doesn't seem to be doing any good.  Her naps were a little unsettled on our trip, but we're getting over the 45 minute hump right now.  She refuses a pacifier.

Our typical schedule:

E:  7:00am
A:  play on mat, etc
S:  8:15am-9:00am

E:  10:00am
A:  play
S:  11:30am -12:30pm or 1:00pm

E:  1:30pm
A:  play
S:  2:30pm - 4:00pm (on a good day)

E:  4:30pm
A: play
S:  6:00pm for 45 minutes

E:  6:30pm
A:  bouncy chair during dinner

E:  7:30pm for bed
S:  8:00-8:30pm asleep

E: 10:00pm DF

Up at 1:00am, 3:00am, 5:00am, 6:00am, 7:00am

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

She's 14 weeks today.  I didn't do the dream feed last night just to see if that helped things and I moved her bassinet to another room.  She still woke at 12:15am and 2:45am but then slept until 6:00am.   I got a little more sleep (probably because I didn't hear her rustling all night) and am less irrational, so I'm considering doing the DF again to see if it helps.

I see several posts about NW for babies this age, so I don't know if it would happen no matter what, or if the DF is changing her schedule.  She eats quite a bit in the afternoon/evening - 4pm, 6:30pm, 7:30pm - and used to go 6 hours with no problems.

I just can't seem to get my head around this on such little sleep for me!

Yeah, the 12-14 week range can be tough for several reasons, but it sounds like you are doing well! Two wakings is pretty good.
