oliverrowland,
i honestly think that the reason he was waking early was being over tired.  I have been WORKING to undo it, and I think it MIGHT be kicking in.  but you know what?  we have never really been a 7er.  mostly b/w 6 and 7.  so there's only so much i can do.  i have heard that you can try inching bedtime back in small increments every couple of days, but there is no way i'm doing that right now.  we need a little stability around here.  what about you?  how was your LO's wake up this morning?  do you know why he's waking early?

how are you, claire?

twiga,
hi there!  i would try feeding her when she first wakes and see if that puts her back to sleep for longer.  you could also give her just a little food, diluted with water if you're nervous about feeding her.  i don't know.  i'm thinking she sounds hungry.  my LO doesn't eat as much in the morning, especially when he used to get a dream feed.  he also did not drop the night feed that early, but i know some do.  let us know how she does.

Hi Texasmom! (Like the name!)

Thanks for the response.  I guess I am desperate for a sleepless night and trying to force her to drop the 4:30 feed. Some of my friends who have babies the same age are getting theirs to sleep through the night, so I'm thinking that I must be able to do it! Stupid huh!!
I'll go back to my normal of feeding her when she wakes and see if that makes a difference. A solid three hours is better than a broken one!
I will keep you posted.  This forum is great and the BW has been a miracle in this household.

Hi Brooke

Thanks for enquiring re my LO.  How are you doing???

Well, Aiden slept till about 4.50am this morning after 6.45pm sleep time - so we can't complain.  I am just taking it EASY this week and not getting stressed by the early wakings/nap changes etc (easier said than done) and just see what happens.    He is generally so cheerful so it can't be affecting him too much.  I also think developmental milestones of almost crawling and starting to baby talk may be a factor here!

We fed him a small bottle at 5.15am and he went back to sleep till 6.30am and we started the day at 7am.

Will keep you updated.

Cheers for now

Claire

Hi gals,
Brooke:  still 5:30am which is better than 4am, so I feel bad about complaining!  He is stuck there.  It is amazing as I wake to hear him at exactly 5:30am every am....does he have an alarm clock tucked away somewhere?!  I think now it is a very bad habit...he has been doing it for so long.  I think I might have to suck it up and deal with it until he out grows it  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(.  But I love him anyways  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*.
Claire, a wise moderator told me that 6 months is a rough age secondary to all the milestones and it sounds like your lo is getting lots done right now (oops, how old is your lo?).  I wish I could say that my ds' early w/u were due to milestone, at then I would know why.  My ds will  be 7 months on the 31st and is almost sitting on his own.  I think crawling is a long way off as he is soooooo BIG (25lbs)!  I also heard somewhere that often after crawling they sleep better as they get more tired...I hope that is true!
Wishing you all a sleep in!

Hey there,
May I join in?
DS - 13 months - wakes any time between 4:45 and 6:00.
I work 4 days a week, so 6 is a perfectly fine time to get up. But 4:45, come on!!
Some mornings, I can get him back to sleep with a bottle, in my bed. But most mornings, no such luck. We just lie in my bed resting until a more decent hour...maybe 5:15 or 5:30.
I'm about to lose it.
We went from waking at 6:30 to 6 to 5:30 to 5:15 and now it's 4:45. I'm worried it'll creep even earlier!
My ped. says 5 is totally normal at this age...and 445 is really only 15 minutes early...but, somehow it just seems so much worse!!!
What to do? Any success stories?
Kate

MDH Mummy
its funny how all these professionals think 5am is quite an acceptable time to wake up for a LO when they are not the ones getting up at that time!!
my only thought would be his naps may need some rejigging.is he having 1 or 2 naps at the mo?

Twiga
i'd be inclined to agree with PP and feed your LO.yes SOME babies are sleeping through at 10 wks but an awful lot of them are not and it would still be normal for them to have 1-2 feeds during the night ;D

Thank's Sasha's Mummy-
He's recently started taking 1 nap. He's moved to the toddler room at daycare, and recently got over a pile of bugs, ears, eyes, cough, you name it, this kid had it! But...the early rising has been going on long before that.

Here's what he does:
Wake 4:45/5 - bottle
Breakfast 7
Lunch 11:30
Nap 12:30-2:30 or longer if possible
Snack 3:30
Dinner 5:30
Lite snack 6:30
Bath, bottle, books 7-7:30
Bed 7:30

How would you juggle nap?

Thanks Sasha's mummy.  I fed her last night and she did sleep better for it afterwards - though when I went to burb her, she was soaked through.  Decided to use a different variaty of nappies for the night.  Didn't even put that into the equation - that is what sleep deprevation does to you!  I  never thought detective work would play a huge role in bringing up LO....

So we are sticking to our routine and feeding at 04:30 with the old nappies.......at least I know what to expect.
Happy holidays and who knows, santa might even bring me a child that sleeps through the night!

Being a mummy is all about detective work ;D ;D ;D hope santa brings what you want ;)
Kate
sounds like LO had a lot of bugs. feels like they get one illness after another sometimes.your routine is exactly like mine-except for the early waking-sasha normally wakes around 6.30.
my only concern would be that his nap and bedtime may be a little on the late side considering hes been awake since 5.cos his awake time until his nap is over 7 hours.it could be he is getting overtired and this is perpetuating the early waking (IMO).
Is he absolutely insistent about his morning btl?could you put him off longer?
if it was me i would push his nap much earlier -say 11.30-which means you're going to have to be fairly creative about mealtimes!!!!also have you tried an earlier bedtime as well??
Sasha has been on 1 nap since 14 months and the transition from 2-1 nap can take months to settle down.

Hi SM,
DS goes to daycare 4x/week while I work, and they nap at 1230, after lunch, for most of the afternoon! So I can't do a ton about that nap time - I'm hesitant to change it at home because I don't want him to be screwed up by me doing one thing and daycare doing another....
But, I will try some of what you've suggested. Push the AM bottle till 6, maybe he won't wake so early in anticipation...and I'll try to sneak his bedtime a bit earlier day by day over the holiday week. Can't hurt, can it?

He went down last night at 730 and slept till 530 this AM with only a short wake at 1230 and one at 3 due to his cough...So it was a pretty good morning today.
The night before he was showing tired signs at 630, so we got him ready for bed, and he wouldn't go down till 8. Played in crib the whole time...and then woke at 445.... ::)

MDH
thought the daycare might be a problem re the nap!! try and see if you can move the btl a bit later as it could be the reason for the early waking. i think if you can fix that you'll be on the right track.
what gets me is how  our LOs have so much energy with so little sleep!!!!

sorry things aren't getting any better. it took us a long while to fix Sashas early wakings and they didn't really improve until she got older.fixing early wakings does take time unfortunately.
in fact now shes still an early riser (anytime between 6-6.30) by most peoples standards.
hope things improve soon
