momwho
i wouldn't introduce a dream feed at his age.its more likely to disrupt his sleep than help it.what time does he take his am nap and how long is his PM nap?
jlw10
is it pos to see a typical routine for your LO.what have you tried to extend naps as i feel this may be the key to your early waking

In the morning like clockwork, he has a nap about an 1 1/2 at about 9:30 and he sleeps about an hour to  an 1 1/2, and then is down again 1:30 for another nap the same length in time.  He also sneaks in a third nap at about 5:30 but I only let him nap yesterday for a half hour and he went to bed at 8:00 instead of the usual 7:00 and low and behold, this morning he woke at 7:00 (he hasn't done that in a couple of weeks)!!  Although, at 4:30 I woke up and slept fitfully as I was waiting for him to wake up at anytime!!!  what a special treat.  Now that have written this down, I should really try to extend his awake times right maybe having his morning nap say at 10:00 and his afternoon nap at 2:00ish to try and rid of this aftersupper snooze right?  at 10 months I should be able to expect him to sleep only twice during the day right?  He is a very busy boy for 8 months.  he crawls (solider style) and he climbs everything, bookcases, coffee tables, and even pulls himself up on couches!!  After reading more posts yesterday it seems like 2 naps works best with the short one in the am and the longer one in the pm.  I will give this a shot.  and I agree with the df at this age, I was just wondering your thoughts on it as well.

he only way how we fixed the early waking was excessive cot-playing during the day and we really attached him to his lovey. We started this as Tracy said: put him in the cot during the day for a minute or, bring new toys and then leave for a few seconds, then minutes. Now he plays in his cot for up to an hour reading books.
After that he felt more comfortable in his cot. When he then still woke at 5 we went in, put him down and said night night, it's the middle of the night and then I went back to bed. He protested for about a minute, then went back to sleep and when he wakes up (6ish) he plays quietly in his cot with his lovey Kasimir. It's great! Teething and seperation anxiety also made the problem much worse.

Thanks, how long it take to see some results?
Because right now he goes to bed nicely but waking at 5 am with screams.

Just wanted to add, he could play in his crib. And be fine there for some time, is the point that he needs some just very low key time?
I have not done it really, somehow I have been missing it in book

momwho
i agree its about the right time to phase out the catnap.you'll probably find that his pm nap might have to be a bit later so he is not having a long awake time till bedtime.
glad you had a lie in ;D ;D

I like the idea of playing more in the crib.  I wonder if it would work with my 9.5 mo?

I had gotten the early morning waking semi-fixed like I said earlier.  She'd wake around 9:15-9;25 and then I'd changer her and feed her then back to bed.  I fed her because I thought my milk was giong down due to pregnancy, although deep down I think i'm just chicken.  Although, sometime soon the milk will disappear.  Do you think I should stop the 5:30 feeding since it probably is AP?  Or just let her do it for the next several weeks while the milk is still there?

The older the child the longer it takes to fix it... But playing in the cot for me... is such a nice and soft way to fix something, I really liked it. It's in Tracy's toddler book, but she does recommend it also for 10 months olds, so I guess it would work with a 9 month old, too. The idea behind it is that they really like their cot a lot more and the have positive associations with it. Even if it doesn't make her have a long lie-in, she might chatter and play with a toy. To me that is a great differnce to loud screaching in the morning :)
I can also wake up slowly

hmmmm - any ideas if she does play very well in her cot in the mornings  - when she wants to.

Some days she plays in there for over an hour before she "calls out" to me.  Other days it is like 1 minute.  Does just seem hungrier the mornings she is impatient, but can't seem to find any connection to how she ate the day before!

ok you guys probably won't agree with what I did last night. Well first of all "on" average she's been waking up around 4am and I've been giving her a full 6 oz because basically she usually has her last bottle anywhere betweeen 5 and 6pm "at least lately". She than goes back to sleep until between 6 and 6:30am. She's been going to bed around 6:30pm and falling sleep between 6:45pm and 7:30pm. After her 4am bottle - she's been having a bottle around 8:30am, 1:00pm and 5:pm. WHERE before she was having a SMALL bottle mixed with water if she woke up between 1am and 4am in addition to 4 bottles from the time she woke up for the day until bed time. If she did't wake up she'd be up bright and early 4:45am to 5:30am and even with the very small 3-4 oz bottle she'd still wake up at 4:45am to 5:30am. SO LAST NIGHT she didnt' wake up at 4:00am,but was sort of crying in her sleep at around 4:15am and I picked her up and fed her the 6oz bottle. She drank it right down and went back down until 6:15am. Once again today she'll have another bottle at around 8:30am, lunch time and dinner time. Beats me getting up at 4:45am "lol". I know some have said push her bottle closer to bed time...I had been doing that...it was pretty much right AT bed time. I do also feed her breakfast, lunch and dinner but as some of you know it took her a long time to eat and she's picky and won't accept the spoon so everything is at her pace ect. She's doing better in the eating area though.
