Hi to the new members!

newmom7 - no you are definitely not alone!!  My dd goes to bed REALLY early - I have recently put her to bed at 5pm which is the earliest we have tried and guess what she woke at same time BUT of course this meant that she got more overall sleep which is what I am trying to do to overcome the overtiredness so that maybe we can work on better naps and then a later bedtime and wake up time in the morning.  Things have improved for us a bit lately as our early waker woke up everyday between 4-4.30am and has now been getting closer to 5am so she actually had 12 hrs sleep the night she went to bed at 5pm and that the was first time ever for her.  A normal night would be about 10 hrs only so that was great.  Don't worry about what other people think about early bedtimes (I used to get comments from people with my other dd when we had 6pm bedtime) but you know what is best for your child so go with your instincts.

Good luck - I really hope things improve for you and if you find out the secret please let me know!
Lisa

Lisa-thanks for the support! Yes I will let you know if I find out the secret...if there is one right?! SMILE
Anyhow, the past 2 days our ds has actually woken up at 6a.m. HOORAY!!! A few nights before the EW started to improve though he was also waking up crying like only 1-2 hours into his night time sleep...which I never figured out the reason for it because he did it, then was fine the next night, then it happened again.  As far as what I have done different to get him to sleep in til 6a.m? NOTHING! Isn't that crazy? I guess sometimes there are just no answers, or if there are reasons, they resolve themselves without our help and then reoccur again only to bring more helpless feelings! I think it is just the worst when your lo is overtired and miserable and you feel there is nothing you can do to help them out of it. I will keep you updated though-please do the same!  :)

Thank God! Im not the only one! My 11wk old is a 6am riser, but im sure she is awake at around 5/5:30a.m in her cot! When reading the posts about 3-6mth old routines I was wondering why my DD was the only one who woke earlier! I thought that there was something wrong? Its nice to know that there are some other people out there with the same prob. I either need to get used to it or die trying to fix it I think. Ill join for sure!
My DD is still talking in her cot on her first nap of the day! Does she ever sleep! AHhhh. Does anyone else feel that there day is very long due to the early morning wake????? ::)

Hi everyone. I have been trying to do some tweaking on my 10-month-old twins's routine, to help them get more overall sleep and to hopefully get them to wake up later in the am. Currently (as in the last week) dh and I started to put them down for bed at 6:30pm, in order to give them more sleep at night. Ds wakes around 5:30, and wakes up dd. So they are getting 11 hrs at night. I have been also starting to cut down on naps to no more than 2.5 hrs.

Another problem has arisen- dd is starting to nw again. Maybe it is too soon to flip out over this but the last three nights she woke up at 3 or 2am fussing for about 30 minutes or so. As in fussing I mean she is either moaning, like she does to put herself to sleep at night, or crying. I don't respond, because the crying is not hard, and if I did go in I would make her cry harder, and wake her ds.

A concern is that maybe dd is not getting enough sleep overall. Before she took longer naps than ds, and I believe that if ds were not waking up early, then dd would sleep longer in the am. Any suggestions on where to tweak?

They are waking from their pm nap at 3, and going to bed at 6:30pm. Is this too long A time? DD is tired by 6, but there is no chance I can put her down then, since I also have ds to deal with. They need to go to bed close to the same time.

And can I expect ds to ever sleep past 5:30?

Well its good to see a forum on early risers.  DD2 is 3 and has been waking up at 5 am for the past 18 months, ever since she came down with Pnemonia 18 months ago.  I have an 7 1/2 yr old too who generally gets woken up because the 3 yr old.  I bought an alarm clock and set it to 6:30am to get her to stay in bed till it goes off its worked only a hand full of times, I am hoping it will continue to work.  Anyway have any other suggestions.
Thanx,
Melissa

My LO has been this way since birth.  He's 9 weeks old today.  No matter what I do, we are up at 6AM every day.  I hope as he gets older that his morning wake-ups will be later!!

I'll join though it's got to be the worst club to be a member of!! Charlie sleeps less now than ever, she's crawling and standing up so whereas she used to wake at 5 and sometomes drop off again she now stands up in her cot and screams until i go in, i'm thinking of a bit of rope around her ankles but hubby thinks this wouldn't go down to well with HV and he's probably right. still it is nice to know i'm not the only mum sitting up before dawn with matchsticks in my eyes.

Hi everyone!!

I am having some issues with early wakings for my 7.5 mo twin girls.  both girls have gone through periods of sleeping until 6-630, but also ones of waking for the day between 4 and 530am.  I don't understand why this happens.  Right now they are currently waking usually around 515-545 am, and if this is when their normal wake up time is gonna be then we will have to learn to deal with it i guess.  But i'm not entirely convinced it is, cuz they have slept later sometimes too.  The real problem for us is trying to keep them up for their am nap.  I have a 6yr old dd who i take to school, and both babies usually try to fall asleep in the car on the trip.  I have tried everything to keep them awake, and sometimes i can....but most days they fall asleep 5 min from home, and then  go into spazzy mode thinking they have had a decent nap...which then will mess up their nap sched. for the rest of the day.  We have thought about having DH take her to school, but then i would need to pick her up, which would be right in the middle of their pm nap, and DH can't do both drop off and pick up as he works on the other side of town, and well, i think his boss would like him to put in some hours at work... :)  anyways, i was hoping that maybe some of the other moms might have some suggestions on how they have dealt with this issue.  It's hard with twins cuz they wake each other, and it's hard then to get them both settled back down.  I'll post my routine as well to see if you all think there is something i could tweek with that.

515/530- wake up
545- 4oz bottle
615- meds(reflux)
715 fruit & cereal
830/845 am nap(1.5-2hrs) this nap is later like after 9am if they wake after 6am
1045 6oz bottle
1200 veggie and cereal
130/145 pm nap(1.5-2hrs)
300- 6oz bottle
500 baby food dinner/dessert
630 bath
645 8oz bottle
715 asleep for night

Thanks so much for any help or advice!!

Robin

Hey guys

I have been in this club before, but then decided to embrace the early wakeups...anything from about 5:115 onwards is just fine by me.  DD goes to be before 7 most nights, so I am happy that I get time to myself in the evenings, and I am an early riser myself anyway.

But, having said all that, I am back.  I now have two children (DD 17.5mo, and DS 3.5 weeks old).  Between the two of them, I am getting average of about 5 hours sleep per night, broken into 3 parts at least, sometimes more.  Today, I fed DS at 4am, DD woke at 4:30, DS wouldn't settle, and DD didn't settle after we went in 4 times, so she came to our bed for some quiet time while I fed DS (DH had to leave for work, I couldn't keep going to her AND feed him) so I have been awake since 4 am - for the 5th time in a week!

So, really just bad luck and bad timing and all that (DD doesn't always wake so early, anywhere from 4:30-6am) but there you go....

So, hugs to all tired mummies.  I know.  Cause I then spend the day running after my toddler, and feeding my baby and I haven't managed to fit in any naps for me either yet.

Yawn.  Even with this, I just don't think I could be any more in love with my kids and my life.  And coffee is my best friend!

I just want to know what we are all going to do when Daylight Savings time ends.  I realize this may not be an issue for some of you, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.  My DS wakes up at 6:00 or a little earlier everyday no matter what time he goes to bed, so I don't think the change in hour at night is going to produce the change in hour in the morning.  He's going to be up at 5:00 or earlier.  YIKES!  AND he'll be overtired from going to bed later on top of it!  PLEASE give me any ideas y'all might have!
