oh man - I didn't know this was here!!

I found you - yes - thank you god!!

Logan is an early riser between 4:30-6:30 - I do the pray (even though I am an atheist  ;D) that he doesn't wake when he stirs like he always does at 4:-4:30 am - I try not to move a  muscle and hubby and I tip toe around the best we can so as not to wake him because as many of you have said the day is so much longer!!!
and I second some abuse to the moms that complain about anything after 7!!!! good grief!!

i am thinking - as someone else noted - that my son is up even earlier than i know since by 8:30 he is rubbing his eyes and ready for nap one (when the other moms babies are getting up) talk about screw up your EASY!!!  they need a special one for early wakers!
I am struggling with my ds not taking aft naps right now but the am one at like 8:30 - 9:00 so he is awake for soooooooooo long before bed at 6:45 and already up sooooooooooo early - we are at the point now where we are like aft nap - great - no aft nap - oh well!!!

I will be here more often now!!

nice to meet you

Strange that babies are tired sooo early after waking up in the morning and then can go through 6 hours of A-time without sleeping. Don't get it.

I thought I'll be clever today, went to my bed early yesterday even though I really wanted to watch the Supernanny. DS stirred at 5.20 so I got up, prepared his bottle and nappy and stuff...

What did he do? Didn't e up and slept til 7.30 :o

This might not sound long for some people but it is for me. I am tired and he is bright as a button.  ::)

The main reason why many babies get tired so soon after waking is that their first nap is really part of night sleep & if you feed them at the early time as they get older they sometimes don't want to go back to sleep & there begins a cycle..
When Liam started deciding that 5am was an ok time to start the day, I had a horror 4 days, but I stopped all food until 6.45am (gradually later to 7.30 after that) & as his maximum capable A time at that stage was 4.5hours I made sure he was awake for 4.5hours... within a week (bar leaking nappies & other odd things) we were getting 6amish & now mostly 7am wakeups.

We have never fed Zara when she wake up early, and it hasn't helped at all.  She is sick, and nowhere near getting a good night sleep, and she still waking by 6am :P

I know what you all mean, just seems like some lo's are just plain old bad slepers  :-[, no matter what we do, sometimes they sleep and sometimes not.
I have a "friend" in my post natal group who looks at me with what can only be described as inate pity everytime i see her, cos my ds wakes at 5.30. She says things like "Oh, i so feel for you, you poor thing", she drives me crazy >:(, cos i think 5.30 wakings is great compared to what he used to be like.
I feel like saying "yeah, well at least my ds is not a screaming banshee during the day, and actually smiles!!!!"
But i just take a deep breath and think of good thoughts, what a lot of good karma i am building up  ;D

Well, I'm back to join the club :(. My dd is back to waking 5 to 5:30ish. Yesterday she woke at 6:30am - we were so happy  :), but it turned out to be the calm before the storm. She woke at midnight last night, and it took more than a half hour to get her back down, and then she woke at 5:30am this morning. She's cutting another eye tooth (or maybe 2!)  ::) I will be soooo happy when her teeth are all in!!!!

Hang in there ladies...

haven't been on for a while. Moving house, no internet blah blah.

Just wanted to say that my elder son has slept until 6.45 for the last 3 morning. Fairly miraculous in our house. But the little one is proving to be a pain in the butt. Waking everday at around 4.30/5 and just wants to start his day. So this morning I had had it and just said no way. I put up with him screaming for an hour and a half after he realised that he wasn't going to get to play or eat - and then he finally fell asleep and woke at 7am. Will see what happens tomorrow. Sigh.

@J&J's mum. We do the same. It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. he was sleeping fine until one morning we had to get up to go to the airport. We woke him at 5am and now (that is a months ago) he still wakes at that time. Sometimes he will go back to sleep, sometimes he won't. He doesn't scream though, just chattering but that gets louder and louder until I get him up. he can do that for an hour but because I have to sleep in one room with him and DH I can't sleep either....

But can't you just get so rude and crappy at that time of morning? I can be sooo determined, I can even go downstairs and sleep on the sofa... I am not that with him during the day but tiredness... ::)

Rinajack the feeding at an early wake up isn't really a factor for babies under about 9mo... once they are capable of going 12 hours without a feed it becomes a factor.

I know if ds#2 can see a "crack" of daylight under his door, he will often want to start the day early.

Also I know his A time is abotu 5 hours, & I noticed something the other day & charted it... for every 5 mins after 5.15 A time he goes to bed at night, he wakes up 10mins earlier... so say he wakes at 1.45pm from his nap, he has to be in bed before 7pm (to be asleep by 7pm) otherwise he will be awake before 6.30am... if he wakes after say 3.00pm then I still put him to bed at 7.30pm (his bedtime), but if he wakes before 2.30pm from his nap I have to adjust his bedtime accordingly... seems to work. He can cope with a bit more A time in the AM if he isn't in the car/stroller... but that happens so much because all our activities run close to noon ( his nap time)

I went through a long run with 5am wakeups with ds#1, so I would try something for a week & if I didn't see any improvement, I tried other things... the biggest factor is making sure the first nap isn't too early & seen as a broken off extension of night sleep

Hi All!

Wanted to join in! Little one has been waking at 6am since as long as I can remember! When she was little I used to try and puch her to get her to sleep until 7am and finally gave up because it was more torture doing that than just getting up. So now what we do is she wakes at 6 and DH goes in and gets her, then she comes into bed with us and plays until 6:30 and then I get up and nurse her at 6:30 to start our day!

Our other trouble is she has always been a 45 min. napper....but that is another board, I guess!!! No rest for the weary in this house!!!

So I read a book from Dr. Marc Weisbluth(sp?) - and his instruction in the book is to make the am nap sooner than later as it is to act like an extension of the night sleep - I believe in his book he states the am nap is best take between 9 - 10 (this may not be for 1 yr olds I am not sure as I have no memory retention anymore since my son wakes so darn early!!!!)  Anyhow - he says that the earlier they go down in the am the better they sleep and is a more restfull sleep as it is seen as exyension of night.....his book is healthy sleep habits happy child.......lots of people use it and I did learn allot of great stuff from it........again its opinion and maybe not the best method - gosh is frustrating when you hear so many contradictory things!!!!!!!

For those of you who have a 1yr old or around there - when is your baby doing their first nap?? Logan is ready (it seems) for his first nap often by 8:30 - 9am - he is usually up at 6am sometimes a touch earlier and a sometimes a touch later......... WE are struggling with the aft nap and thinking we might need to go to the 1 nap deal but I am interested to hear what moms of early wakers are doing.....

thanks

Zara still sick, not sure about this.  I don't feel she is improving well, but the only dr is out of town until Monday.  Thanks for asking.
