What to do when waking up at 5am and start time 7am...
« on: July 03, 2006, 14:43:37 pm »
I have a 7 week old and we have just started our 5th day doing E.A.S.Y.    She is only taking about 1oz of pumped milk in a bottle at 11am dreamfeed but the rest of the day is going smoothly.   She is still waking up for a 2am feed and 5 am feed.  She really wants to stay awake after the 5am feed and we have LOTS of trouble getting her back to sleep until 7am.  Any helpful suggestions?

Are you using pat/shhhh to get her to resettle after the 5am feed?

I hate to say it since I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but at 7 weeks, you're doing quite well! It's absolutely normal to be having at least two night feeds at this point. When starting EASY, there will often be a blip at night with the feedings, since during the day they are used to being awake and having A time after a feed. Then we get to teach them that nighttime is different. So stick with it, and she will get the hang of things.

thank you for opening my eyes to the thought of her adjusting her days and nights and learning when she has activity time and when she doesn't.   This is probably what is going on.  I think I may have fed her too little as well because she kept falling asleep and may not have gotten a full feed.  We have tried shh/pat...usually it works but for some reason at this time we have not had as much success..thus the frustration.  It is hard work shh/patting for an hour!    :P

LOL I know what you mean! EASY is not always easy. But keep at it, you're doing GREAT! She probably just needs to learn that A time doesn't happen at night.

I have a 6wk old and have the same pattern, she wakes at 2am and then 5am all I can do is feed her as Im afraid shes hungry! but she only takes about 10mins from 1 breast. then goes back to bed, so I wake her after 7 to get her up to start the day...
Is this what I am suposed to do?
