Restart dreamfeed?
« on: July 04, 2006, 18:20:22 pm »
Hi,

My DS is 6 months old and has always had a dreamfeed at 10.30pm (breastfed).  He has been sleeping 7pm til 7am for a couple of weeks. Over the last few weeks, he has gone from feeding for 35 minutes to little over 5 minutes, so I took this as a sign that he was about ready to stop.  Two nights ago I thought I would try not giving the dream feed at all and he woke up at 5am.  Last night he woke at 1am, 3am and 4.30am.  I fed him at 4.30am and it took him another 30 minutes to go back to sleep.

Did I get it wrong?

Any suggestions would be welcome!

Thanks

Mama

Hi Mama, I was never able to do a DF plus I don't BF. I am sure that there are many folks around who can give you some advice though!  :-*

Last night he woke at 11.30pm (I think he was feeling a bit under the weather as he'd refused his 2pm feed) then again at 5am, when I fed him.  I'm going to restart the DF tonight and see if he re-settles.

Thanks!

keep us updated on how things are going.

with lo waking at those times i would say it is 'probably' not hunger related as lo would probably be waking up within an hr if it was. could lo be teething or uncomfortable in anyway??

Thanks Teezee,

From his crying I think he might have been in some kind of discomfort last night, I'm just not sure what exactly.  Maybe he was hot or just overtired from a busy day.

I think I will just revert to what I was doing previously - he is breastfed apart from one bottle of formula at bedtime when my supply has always been low, so I've tried adding an extra ounce to this (which he took tonight).  I'll try the dreamfeed for another month or until he stops it himself.  He had been very settled, sleeping 7pm - 7am, so I just want him to be able to get a good night's sleep again.

Thanks for your reply.  I'll keep you posted!
