HELP - trying to get 7 week old on routine
« on: July 05, 2006, 12:50:05 pm »
Hi, I have recently read the book and have been trying to implement EASY for a week now.  Before trying this Ethan was feeding (mainly breast) during the day about every 2 hours, sometimes longer and in the hot weather sometimes a little shorter.  He was going down to bed about 9 after a bath/bedtime ritual, and a couple of feeds.  He would then wake between 1:30 and 2:30 and again between 4:30 and 5:30.

Yesterday I thought we had cracked it.  His daytime routine was perfect apart from a slightly short nap in the afternoon.  he even went down for a catnap in the early evening before his bath.  He took his DF at 10pm and went back to sleep only to wake at 12:30, 1:30, 3:50, 5:30 and 6:30!!!!!!  He has never done that before!  Each time we tried shh-pat and the dummy and he was always hungry and taking either 4-6 oz of formula or 30-40 minutes at the breast!!!

Today he is restless and seem constantly hungry!  Have we created a monster or is this a growth spurt, and if so how do we deal with it so we are not totally worn out!

Any advice welcome!!!

Alyson

It sounds like he is going through a growth spurt, feed him at night when he is hungry, but up the milk intake during the day, and try cluster feeding, so he isn't waking constantly through the night.
