Found WEETABIX!!!!
« on: July 17, 2006, 13:24:50 pm »
Yeh!!! I am so excited!!!   :) :) :)

I have been reading about "Weetabix" for months now on this site and have not been able to find them ANYWHERE in the United States.  When I went to visit my inlaws in Canada, I saw them in the stores there.  So I figured it was a U.K. and Canadian product.

Well, yesterday I was at a local market that specializes in organic and specialty foods and found it!!!!  It was $4.00 a box (U.S.) which is kind of expensive but I was so excited to see it that I bought it anyways.  DH who is Canadian was thrilled too, as he grew up with it...

Now.....how do I serve it to my 13 month old?  Finger food?  With milk?  DH had no idea..

Serve with milk and mash it up so it looks like soggy cardboard - tastes delicious though!

I could not find them in any of the "typical" grocery stores.  Or maybe I did not look hard enough... :-[ :-[ :-[

However, at this market they were right at the end of an aisle with it's own display.   :D :D :D

Never heard of Weetabix till I joined this site a few months ago...but DH (Canadian) is a huge fan.

My DS loves his weetabix with cold milk and a little bit of sugarless jam (do you call it jelly?). When I was a child we used to eat them with butter and jam like an open sandwich oohhh delicious I might just go and have some now.  :D

You may be able to find it in "regular" grocery stores on the top shelf (with the specialty cereals, like granola, etc) or if your grocery store has an organic food/natural food section, it is sometimes stocked there. Here (outside of Baltimore) we have it in all 3 of the nearby grocery stores (Giant, Safeway, Super Fresh).

Steph...that sounds yummy.

Gabrielle, you are probably right.  I never go down the Organic Food Aisle.  (Bad mommy) Usually just the regular Cereal Aisle to pick up DH's Quaker Oatmeal and Cinnamon Toast Crunch (for me) (Again, unhealthy bad mommy)  :-[ :-[ :-[

Do you know if it is $4.00 a box in Baltimore?  Just curious.

I have to go grocery shopping today anyway; I'll check the price.  :) (By the way, I never go down the organic food aisle either (I think I'll join your "bad mommy" club) - I happened to see it there because it's close to the main aisle)

You can have weetabix warm or cold.  Ciara likes it both ways.  She also loves some raisins mixed into it with milk or likes to eat it plain and crunchy.

YUK i think they are awful  :P

Matthew likes his with fresh fruit on top.  At the mo - fresh raspberries / strawberries.  Or grated apple on the top - loves it like that.  IF I can't be bothered to deal with the fruit - raisin / sultanas on top.

The price was $3.63 for the 15 oz box (I think - it was that or 12 oz) at Safeway. HTH
