What time are 2 year olds going to bed?
« on: July 17, 2006, 17:16:42 pm »
I know a lot has changed since our sticky days on top....so for 2 year olds what time are they going ot bed?  Is it later than it was previously?  What time are naps and what time do they wake up?

We wake anywhere from 5:45-7:30 these days
We nap at 12:00 for 1.5-2 hours (though somedays she falls asleep closer to 1)
Bedtime is anywhere from 7:30-8:30...I'm trying to figure out what time puts her to sleep faster.

My 2.5 year old goes to bed between 7:00 and 7:30pm. He wakes at about 7:00am (unless dd wakes him earlier) and naps from about 12:30-1:00ish for about 2 hours.

My 2 1/2 year old now gets up between 6 and 6:30 am, nap at 1-4 pm (yes, a THREE HOUR nap!!) and goes to bed promptly at 9.

Works well for our house, as we're both working parents and want to see him!!

Ella is just shy of 20 months but she wakes up anywhere between 8 and 8:30. Nap time is 12:30 and she sleeps for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Bedtime is 8 but she usually chats and sings to herself for a good 1/2 hour.

Margot is 23 months and falls asleep around 7:50 to 8:20 pm and is up around 6 to 6:30.  Naps are 1 to 3.  She always needs 30 minutes to 1 hour to fall asleep at night (putting her to bed later just means a later sleep time) but she always conks out for her nap within 10 minutes. Naps are usually 2 hours but can be only 1.5 hours. Occasionally we have to wake her when she's been napping for 3 hours!

Jack is 2 and a quarter. He wakes anywhere from 6, naps from 1-2.30 (always have to wake him!). Goes down at 7.30 but is very often still awake at 8.30 (but sings away to himself!).

Quite timely this as I'm wondering whether to drop his nap so he sleeps earlier in the evening and maybe a bit later in the morning? Views?

Sue--had  thought of limiting Margot's nap too but I find on the w/e when she tends to have shorter naps she just doesn't sleep as well at night--meaning she does sleep longer ie 11 hours instead of 10 but it is a restless, unrefreshing sleep and she often wakes grumpy.

What happens if you don't wake him for his nap?

Thanks for the responses.  I think 30 mins is fine for wind down but once it hits over an hour, I think it gets crazy!  But I'm going ot keep at it and see how she does.

All the times are very normal to me.When my DD was 2she is 5in Nov she was in bed around 6.30-7pm and awake at 7pm.She goes now at 8pm and wakes at 7am but has no sleeps during the day.

But over in Spain it is common from the age of 1to go to bed at 9-11pm.They do wake later at around 8or 9pm thought, but that is my bed time no my children's.

I no people that have a 9&5year old and they go bed at between 10-30-11.30pm in the summer and 9-10pm during the winter..Thats my bed time.different cultures, but I like to keep my children similar to what we were bought up like.

Dorian will be 2 in October and he get's up anytime between 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning. He goes down for his nap at 12:00 and usually sleeps till 2:30. He goes to bed between 8:30 and 9:00. This has worked for us for some time now.  Once school starts i'll probably start putting him to bed at 8:00 so i can get chase down before 9:00.  Dorian has no problem (Most of the time) going to sleep as long as he's by himself. That's the only reason he goes earlier than chase.
