Cleaning Straw Cups
« on: July 18, 2006, 09:10:19 am »
How can I clean the straw in a straw beaker?

My DD has well diluted juice in her straw beaker but it leaves residue in the straw and I can't think of anything small enough to fit into the straw.

Any suggestions?

I've been having the same problem. I just leave it to soak and then hold it under a running tap. Any smore effective uggestions would be great!

I use pipe cleaners- I found them at our dollar store, and bought the 'metallic' colored ones, they are perfect for all the hard to get to places in sippi cups, straws, etc. Hope that helps!!

I use q-tips and a kaboob skewer to help push it through the whole straw without it getting stuck.

We sometimes get milk crud stuck in our sippy cup straw. Ick.  I used a q-tip to push the crud out, it's a tight fit, but works. :)

Now we make sure to rinse out her cups at the end of the day, rinsing the cup and the straw parts. Then I'll fill up the cup with hot water  and put the two straw parts in the cup to soak. This works much better than letting the cup sit as-is overnight on the kitchen counter.  ;D  And we haven't had any problems since, whether we wash the cup later at night or the next morning.

Great ideas on how to clean those things!  Even the regular no-spill cups have little crevices in them, like one we hae that has these grooves all the way up the spout... it's way to small to get anything inside!  I now use almost exclusively the free-flowing, old-fashioned cup that are just a basic cup and a lid with no frills, which are so much easier to clean, and cost so much less besides.  I swear the sippy cup manufacturers are trying to find ways to make the cups get all funky in a couple month sso you have to just throw them out and buy new ones!

I use Dr. Browns little brush for bottles. They sell them individually.
