Weaning off last 2 bottles...
« on: July 20, 2006, 17:35:26 pm »
I just have a logic question about weaning:  firstly, when you want to wean off the morning bottle, do you just substitute the bottle of milk with a sippy cup when they wake and feed it like you were feeding a bottle or do you make them feed themselves?  Or do you  just have them eat a solid food breakfast when they wake up with a sippy of milk?  (Then feed a snack later on?)

As for the nighttime bottle:  do you just give them a sippy of milk with dinner that will substitute the bottle?  This will mean that my dd will be having her milk much earlier than her bedtime as she usually eats dinner at around 5-5:30 and her bedtime is usually around 7pm.  I don't think she will just sit down and have a sippy of milk by itself.  She will need food to go along with it.  I haven't tried that yet though, but I am anticipating that this will happen.

Any advice on this?  Sorry if this is a really stupid question, but I am just so unsure about this weaning process...

Thanks a lot
Jackie

Not a stupid question at all! There are lots of different ways to go about this, but here's what we did. When we cut the AM bottle, I just made sure to have Tyler's solids breakfast ready beforehand so I'd be able to get it on the table quickly. When he woke up, I'd give him breakfast and sippy of milk right off the bat. For the bedtime bottle, we'd have the sippy available after dinner until bedtime, then at bedtime we'd brush teeth and no more sippy after that. We just went about our bedtime routine without any milk involved. Sometimes we'd offer a snack before bed if he didn't eat much for dinner too. Does that make sense?
