Activity ideas for 12month old
« on: July 26, 2006, 03:22:40 am »
Hi Girls,

My DD is almost 12months old and a week ago moved to 1 nap so her awake time has gone from 3-4hrs to 5hrs at a time. She is almost walking cruising the furniture and standing on her own. I am starting to run out of ideas what things i can do with her. She is very good playing on her own for up to an hour with me going in every now and then to do something with her. She gets up at 7.30am has breakfast and a snack at 9.30am, lunch at 11.30am then 12-2/2.30pm nap and snack at 3 and dinner at 5.30pm. The hardest part is 10-11.30am where she often gets grizzly as this is when her AM nap use to be. A walk is good but we are in the middle of winter and the weather isn't always nice.
Look forward to your ideas.

William has just turned one and his favourite activity at the moment is playing in a box of things that I have put together for him.. in it we have an empty handcream tube, an empty pot from nappy cream, a spoon, a handkerchief, and a wide variety of "stuff" lol.. all of it safe for him to do what he likes with.. bash it, pop it in his mouth.. etc etc.. He spends ages taking it all out and experimenting with it then amazingly likes to put it all back again.

On a similar line he loves emptying an od handbag of mine that is filled with little items.. again all safe for him..

He also loves old magazines.. he looks at the pictures and tears and crinkles the pages...

I gave him a pile of old birthday cards last week.. kept him busy for ages... throwing them about.. looking at the pics etc..

He loves any sort of books...

He adores cardboard boxes...

I know you are in winter so you cant do this at the mo.. but if I sit him outside with a big bowl of water he splashes it about and thinks its hilarious..

Come to think of it Will loves anything that isn't a toy... hehe he has just had some gorgeous toys for his birthday and they are all avaiabe for him to choose.. but he always choses stuff that looks like its not a toy.

We sing and dance a lot here.. to his fimbles cd.. and we play peek a boo loads as it makes him howl with laughter...

And I am afraid.. he loves to watch the TV.. ony an hour a day.. but it keeps him sooooo quiet.. lol.

HTH

Natasha- my lo is following the very same schedule as yours...down to one nap and walking along walls! the mornings are becoming harder and harder to fill for us too!
My dd also really loves anything that is not a toy- cardboard boxes are her favourite! :)
We get the club pack of diapers that come in a big box and she loves it!

What are you doing for your los b-day next week? (my dd's birthday is next week too!) a year already!!!

My DD is a big fan of her stacking cups, simple puzzles, shape sorters, riding/pushing toys, and books.  In the "non-toy" category, she loves to play with the tupperware, pots, and pans.  My lower kitchen cabinets (except for one which is locked where I keep cleaning supplies) are all "Katie-safe" and she just takes stuff out of there and plays with it all the time.  Sure I have to wash it a bit more often, but she loves to check out what's in there and explore so I don't mind.

Hi ladies

My dd will be 1 on 19 August and I'm also running out of ideas about what to do with her during A time.

There's some great ideas on here though - I love the one about filling up an old handbag - I'm going to search one out now as Mia is always raiding mine (she has a thing for mommy's tampons!!)

I could curse myself as I've just chucked out an old cardboard box and I've got a feeling she would love that too.  Never mind.  Thanks for the ideas.

Hey Natasha -  we are doing the same, a bbq with friends and family, should be fun!
A celebration for her but also a celebration that we made it through the first year!  ;)

When is the chat? I would totally be interested!
