Calcium for milk allergy baby
« on: July 26, 2006, 04:05:27 am »
My dd has a milk protein allergy, she's bf 5x in a day and eats 3 meals (fruits/veggies/cereal and now meat), I want to make sure she's getting enough calcium as I have eliminated all milk products from my diet (and anything and everything made with milk or butter), any foods high in calcium to recommend for her to take in as solids?

Have you tried her with rice milk? Enriched rice milk can be a great source of calcium. The vanilla Rice Dream tastes pretty good too! Other sources - lots of veggies and beans, calicum enriched OJ (usually not until after one year though), Iron Kids Crustless breads (dairy free) has added calcium, dark greens (broccoli, spinach, collards, kale, turnips, etc), tofu (if tolerated - soy). Also, here is a great link showing calcium needs by age and food sources of calcium: http://www.uhs.wisc.edu/docs/uwhealth_calcium_178.pdf#search%20='calcium%20needs'
