nestle good start after 6 months
« on: July 27, 2006, 00:36:27 am »
Hi all,

I'm wondering about the formula for 6 mo+ babies...  which one did you switch to?? GoodStart2 (pink) or FollowUp Transistion (yellow) and why? The price difference is huge. I've been meaning to call Nestle and find out which one I should be using, but haven't had a chance. In the meantime, I'm playing it safe and sticking to the pricier one as harrison is still not eating a lot of solids.

p.s. I am in Canada and I think there may be other options in USA

Christa - We use GS and Katie has her 9MO checkup on Monday.  I can ask the pediatrician what his opinion is and let you know.  Katie is not a big eater of bottles or solids  - except with her last growth spurt, which was lovely.  She drained her bottles, and gobbled down whatever I spooned at her!  Slept well too, but alas, we're back to normal now.  :-\

We stayed with the plain Nestle Good Start until we started whole milk at one year. My pediatrician told me he thought the follow on formulas were just a marketing ploy and to stay with what she has been on since birth.

I was wondering the same thing about the Follow Up formula's.  My lo was on hypoallergenic formula until 9 mos old and then switched to Lacto Free.  He still is not a big eater at all or does not drink much milk.

Hummmm  what should we do.  I tried to make the switch to whole milk (my lo is 11 1/2 mos old) and since then he milk amount dropped even more and now he has a viral infection so he is not drinking or eating a thing....

Tough choice.  Let me know what everyone else decides to do.

Thanks,
Wendy

My GF's 12 month old has been on GoodStart right from the beginning (we use it too), she was going to switch to the follow up & when she asked her Dr he said don't bother, keep with the same original good start.  I'm not sure what the fad is with these follow ups?  My GF said she bought a can of it to try & it was so foamy (the powder) when she shook it that she ended up throwing the can out.

It is really foamy! I noticed that too, at first I thought I wasn't rinsing well enough.

One reason I am interested in the followup is price, where I shop the prices are (for powder):

Good Start 720g $20.49
FollowUp transistion 900g $16.99!!
GoodStart2 720g $27.99

Is the difference in the price of the transition and the Good Start 2 due to the fact that the transition does not have DHA/ARA? There is a large price different in Good Start - no DHA/ARA and Good Start Supreme - with DHA/ARA here in the US.
