how much a time for a 6mth old?
« on: July 27, 2006, 23:20:39 pm »
Hi,

My ds is just over 6 mths.  I get him up at 7 (even thought he might be awake at 6:30).  And put him down for a nap at 9:00.  I will put him down for his afternoon nap 2.5 hrs after waking up from his morning nap.  Some days I get the third nap in, some days I don't depending on what time he gets up from his second nap at.  He goes to bed between 6:30 and 7:00.  Can I extend his a time between his first and second nap?

7:00 get him up, and bf
7:10 activity
8:00 cereal
9:00 nap
10:30 activity
11:00 bottle
1:00 nap
2:30 activity
3:00 bottle
5:30 dinner
6:30 bed

Some days there might be a third nap around 4:00 depending on how long he's slept for his other naps.  (some days he's a short napper)

This is around about the time the catnap (for us anyway) stops and starts, somedays he had it somedays not.

YOu can try extending the 2nd 'A' time by 15mins and see what happens, if your LO shows he can stay awake.   Just out of interest do you follow his cue or watch the clock to determine his nap times?

Hi Lauren,

I have to admit, I am a clock watcher.  Obviously, if there is something else going on (sick, short morning nap, etc) I adjust accordingly.  I found that if I let him sleep at the 2 hr mark (when he might be tired) he would only sleep for 40 mins.  If I could hold him off until 2.5 hrs he would sleep for 1.5 hrs.  If I left him longer than 2.5 hrs he would only sleep for 40 mins.

Yesterday I did 2 hrs and 45 mins and he was fine.  So I'll try again today.

Thanks
Heidi
