Normally yes,I do be safe always tell them when I ring to confirm my flight and it is the first thing I ask when I check in.

Also not sure if i mentioned it try to board first, mean you can get your stuff close to you, don't have to push past people with your stuff too..Can do toilet runs etc...

Are you flying Air NZ or Cathay Pacific?  Both are really good with babies so you shouldn't have any trouble.  Tell the person at the check-in counter that you want to take the stroller to the gate.  They will put a sticker on it and give you a reciept.  When you get to the gate, the airline staff there will be expecting it the stroller and will take it off you and it will be put on the plane.  When you arrive in Auckland, the stroller will either be waiting for you as you exit the plane or it will arrive at the baggage carousel - this depends on the airport and the airline.
The airline stafff will also board you first at the same time as first/business class so you can get yourself organised before the hordes arrive!
Also, ask your travel agent to book you a bulkhead seat in advance - the bit of extra space will really come in handy.  I always thought that airlines automatically reserved these seats for babies but apparantly this isn't so and you do need to ask.  At check-in, make sure they do give you the bulk-head seat.

I was breast feeding at the time when we flew from the UK to Australia with DD at 10.5 months. We took bottles, weetabix and a couple of meals frozen and got them microwaved at Singapore. That worked well for us. We used the formula to make the weetabix up. Those ready made cartons were brilliant. We didn't have to worry about temperature etc.

I had always cooked DD's food and when I tried the week before to get her to eat jars she just wouldn't have any of it.

Good luck.

Well, I am just back from a flight with DS :)

We are in the UK now!

The food I love to take is snacky food that takes him LOOOOOONG to eat and that he loves.

He must have tried it before (can't give a baby new food on a plane because of the risk of allergic reaction)...

I would go for loads of bicuits, muffins, bananas and some healthy jars just so that you don't feel that bad... finger foods at that stage take ages to eat which is great during a flight because it forces him to chew and swallow which is good during the flight :)

I find sleep the bigger problem than food though...

Hello there,

Am new to your fab site ( not new to the books tho...love it). I am flying from Sydney to London in a couple of weeks with my 6 month old. He is still breastfeeding but has 3 meals a day of Baby Rice & Porridge. My Bruv is flying in from the UK to fly back with us.
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips at all for long haul flights with a little one. Any suggestions at all would be most appreciated as I am starting to get a little nervous as the day draws nearer.
Many thanks

Kirst
