Sooooooo many comments made me smile and laugh.

The picture is gorgeous and I posted a little while back about my infatuation with pics of breastfeeding moms.  It's simply beautiful.

When I had just had ds and was trying to figure out this parenting thing, my poor dad got to see my milk making machines way more than he would have ever liked to.  My parents were staying wtih me and keeping those machines housed was a fulltime job.  But only a year later, I can't believe I did it.......  but it was just part of my daily life then.  I was workign on so many different things, that doing up a shirt seemed like a huge task.

Bfing is beautiful, I just wish more people were accepting of it, but I'm grateful that we have a community like BW that is.

Aargh, that's just crazy.  Everyone's already said it all!  I'm sure there've been some pics like that in NZ mags, and no-one/not many (??) make a fuss!  Our mags would more likely swing the other way... (protest about pics of bottle-feeding).

I remember that Dr Phil show - no he didn't say to nurse in the bathroom, one of his guests did.  That show was truely infuriating as well.

i nursed Ethan in public whenever i needed to discreetly.  i can prove it was discreet as there were a few occasions when people leaned in to pat the head of the "sleeping" baby only to discover that the baby was busy! feeding!

My breasts never looked like that either!  And I have just one word to say to that: Photoshop.

But I completely agree that people just need to chill out.  If women were flashing their boobs all over the place that would be one thing, but you can't see that much when a baby is nursing!  Here in Portland (where it's a State law that women may breastfeed in public) there was an article in the paper just a few days ago about a woman who sat down on a bench in a Fred Meyer store to feed her screaming baby and had several people complain to the manager.  I guess this incident took place back in April, but since then she's become a "lactivist" and has started a local group called Mom's Milk Anywhere (MomMA) to promote breastfeeding as something natural and necessary.  Here's the link to her blog:

http://www.reluctantlactivist.blogspot.com/

While I, personally, think that she's blown the situation a bit out of proportion, I can understand her being upset by it, and agree that it's a good idea to promote breastfeeding, as long as it doesn't get too out of hand!  ;)  Anyway, I thought you ladies might be interested in what she has to say, and some of the links that she's got on there.

Allison

P.S. I've never posted a link before, so I really hope it worked!

I cant get over peoples sexual obsession with breasts, its crazy  :o

I am speechless after reading that article, a woman with a four month out saying that its gross!

In the UK we have page 3 girls with their boobs out in a newspaper sold at child level on the shelves with FHM, Loaded etc not much higher and if you lift you eyes a little higher you'll find full on porn mags and yet a small bit of naked flesh being used for innocent nourishment can caused such a stir.

Its a beautiful picture showing a gorgeous baby on a gorgeous boob (wish mine looked like that!) It should be celebrated as a thing of beauty not hidden as if its dirty and shameful.

It makes you wonder though.......

Are these same women that found it offensive not appreciated as mothers and wives but only seen as sex objects?  If ya get down to basics the *girls* were put upon our  bodies to nourish the fruit that it bares.  So if the woman that said it was gross....is it because she thinks that sex is gross because it really sounds as though it is a sexual thing. Maybe her partner is all about *that* and it may turn her off and when she sees breastfeeding in progress it upsets her and she can't seem to seperate in her mind that these two acts are two entirely seperate things???  Just another thought that came to my mind.   I mean we live in an age where Rape is considered an act of violence, not an act of sex.........I very much doubt that breastfeeding moms are thinking that b/f is going to be as entertaining as a great baby dance with dh.  (of course, I could be wrong.....what do I know....Me and Playtex bottles and all....)   ;)

That magazine has been sitting on my dining room table for 2 weeks. I took one look at it and thought...UH-OH...the crazies will crawl out of the woodwork over that. I've seen more breast on Oprah at 4 in the afternoon! As for the women who had to tear off the cover or hide the magazine from their husbands....good grief....GROW  UP!!!

Very funny pic!!!  Babies ;D

Recently went visiting my cousin (more like a sister), who is currently bfeeding & got talking to her friend who just weaned her son (2).  Anyway lo decided that if mommy wasn't gonna him a drink, he'd see if daddy had anything available. ;D ;D   (Who has since said he has a new found respect for breast feeding mothers)

NikiJ- LOL very funny

I was recently feeding my lo in front of a friends 2 1/2 year old who has been exclusively bottle fed... she noticed that I switched my lo over half way through so I explain the first was empty she replied with "can I feel the empty one?" ;D
