Overstimulation?
« on: July 31, 2006, 04:40:57 am »
We have a 9 month old textbook baby boy, who has the odd angel trait and odd spirited trait.
He wakes at 6 am, bottle at 7, breakfast 8, nap 9-11, bottle, lunch at 12ish, nap 1-3, bath 7, bottle and bed
nap routine is a few books
bed time routine is a bottle and maybe a book
he is now exclusively formula fed, was breastfed almost exclusively till 6/7 months
when he wakes at night, sometimes he plays and puts himself to sleep, sometimes he needs some pu/pd with some rocking
he has been teething, learning to crawl, etc. but our issue is linked only to overstimulation after specific activities
He has a blanket and stuffed animal and a soother which he tends to use unless he's upset

He is absolutely wonderful in almost any situation, whether travelling, hiking, etc.

At home, he usually sleeps through the night, or may have one wakeup.

The problem is when we are travelling or when we have an extra 'fun' day (like hiking today)...

He doesn't seem over stimulated at the time, but then we will have a horrible night with him waking up constantly and its very hard to get him back down.

I do not want to force a lifestyle on him that he can't handle, but how do we do SOME of the things we used to do, in moderation, without having these night time issues? Its hard on us at night, but its REALLY hard on him.

Has anyone else had this happen? Do we just have to keep trying, every so often, and see how he is as he gets older?
