EASY, solids and short naps
« on: August 01, 2006, 17:42:16 pm »
Hi!  I'm just wondering how other people would handle this:  My son will be 7 months old in about a week.  We are in the very early stages of solids (about to intro a third food).  He gets 1 meal a day, lunch.  Right now, his eating routine looks like this 7BF, 10:45 or 11 BF, 12ish solids, 2:30 or 3 BF, 6 BF, 1 or 2 BF at night.  This works as long as his naps are good.  But, he has been having 30 minute morning naps everytime he gets a new tooth (will not resettle).  This throws everything off, since he has to go back to bed so soon since he can't do his normal A time.  I'm having trouble fitting in a midday meal of solids that doesn't interfere with his breastfeed (too soon before and I'm afraid he won't take enough milk, too soon after and he doesn't want to eat solids, or eats and spits everything up) or with his naps (if he lays down too soon after eating, he spits up and then it is very hard to resettle him after changing him).  I find myself just giving him his meal whenever I see an opening, but it seems like I should be more consistent/predictable ??  is it OK to just skip solids somedays, since we are in the early stage?  Ideas?  Thoughts?  Thanks!

What about making breakfast a consistent meal?  You could do it at 8 an hour after BF and then play the rest of the day by ear.  I might also add in a small snack about 2 hours before bedtime.  this way there will be enough time in between BF.

Thanks!  I'd thought of that, but his first A time is very short (2 hours at the most), and he's often cranky for a lot of it.  I'll try it though, because that will always be a consistent time.

Hey Jen...this is Erin from way over in the Jan/Feb 06 thread...just wanted you to know that once I started giving Belle a reg. brekkie of cereal & fruit  (shortly after first morning feed-closer to 30 min than an hour) her morning A time was still about 2 hours, but much more pleasant & her morning naps were consistantly great! Maybe even just start w/ a consistant breakfast for Chase & work from there....just a thought cuz it worked for us!

Good luck & I'll see ya back on our other thread!

Thanks!  I've been doing that for a few days now, and it works--unless he wakes up at 5 or 5:30 and won't go back to sleep--then he's ready for bed again at 7, and he eats after that first nap.  (Makes for a LOOOONG day!)
