7 1/2 month old routine - Please help with bottles!
« on: July 27, 2006, 21:55:14 pm »
My daughter has never been a real big eater and it has been difficult since the beginning to get her to drink her formula.  She is averaging about 18-22oz of formula a day right now plus 2 or 3 solid meals.   My question is could someone look at her routine and tell me what I should do about her bottle feedings????   She usually doesn't take much formula during the day.

6am-wake  bottle - usually 4-5oz (sometimes only 3oz)
8:30 - Breakfast - usually some kind of fruit (baby food)
10 or 10:30 - offered a bottle (usually will only take 2oz)
10:30 - 12:30 - sleep
12:30 - Lunch (just started a lunch at daycare) today it was turkey noodle cassarole and green beans
2:30 - offered a bottle (usually will only take 2 oz)
2-4pm - sleep
5-5:30- usually offered a bottle and if won't take then offered dinner with us (some kind of baby food dinner , (ex: turkey and rice) and veggie.
7:00-7:30pm - offered last bottle before bed time - Usually drinks 4-6oz at this feeding.

My concern is even before she was eating a solid food lunch she would only take about 4-6oz of formula at daycare during the day.

Please - any help would greatly be appreciated!

Thanks    Lisa

Well my DS wasn't taking much either so i decided to dropp one bottle, so our day looked like this:

7:30 wake up and bottle
8:30 breakfast
10:00 nap
12:30 lunch
2:00 nap
3:30 bottle and snack
5:30 dinner
6:00 bath
6:30 bottle and book
7:00 bedtime

So from looking at your post i would suggest to cut out one bottle, IMHO i would cut out the 10am bottle. and make lunch a bit earlier.

Hi Lisa...

Not sure if I can be too much help but this is my DS who is 7.5months routine. He does like his milk and food.I have to cut some of his milk down as he was having too much milk. This his daily feeding routine, hope it can be of some help.

7am awake and 180ml of formula
8am cereal with 60ml of formula and add some water too
9.30-10/11am sleep

12noon 180ml formula
1pm lunch/fruit
1.30-3pm sleep

4pm 180ml of formula
6pm tea
7/7.30pm 210ml of formula then off to bed here until next morning.

Just an idea maybe look at brining breakfast earlier so then maybe at 10am bottle wouldn't be so full.

I was giving a bottle at 11am and he wasn't taken much so I cut that bottle around.as soon as I dropped a bottle he cut himself to only 2 sleeps a day  and slept alot better and feed alot better now.

Hope this is some help

Andrea...

Thanks for all the replies,   I think I will try and drop the 10am bottle and see what happens.    I worry that she is not a real big milk drinker and if I go to 3 bottles she may only drink 5 oz or less a bottle and then she would only be getting 15 oz of formula a day -  Is that ok?????? plus 3 meals of solid food.    Thanks    Lisa

I am not sure of the amount of formula but you might find that dropping one bottle she might want more with her feeds.

hope goes well...

Everything I have read suggests that at 6-9 months, they drink 18-20oz of formula. DD has anywhere between 12oz - 18oz per day plus whatever is in her food (cereal, yoghurt etc) so 15oz + anying milk used in cooking should be fine for a 7.5month old.
