Help! Dropping the cluster feeding
« on: August 02, 2006, 15:39:34 pm »
Help! My EWC will be 8 weeks on Friday. We have been implementing EASY since she came home from the hospital. We have been cluster feeding and I read we are supposed to drop the cluster feeding at 8 weeks. So, I'm confused as to her feeding schedule after Friday.
For example, we are cluster feeding at around 5pm or 6pm (depending on her wake time) and then at 7pm or 8pm. If we drop the cluster feed, are we supposed to feed at say, 5pm and then again at 8 or 8:30 and a dream feed between 10 and 11? She's been going 3 to 3 1/2 hours between feeds during the day.
Can I get some clear instruction for this??
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi there
The part of the routine I have highlighted in green are your choices - either continue to CF if it works for you, I still did it until DS was a 4 hour EASY.  If you choose to stop clusterfeeding then you would do 4 and 7pm as highlighted below.

So, one in  every 3hr period you are looking for a nap from her, you 3hr cycle may look like this;
    E 7am
A 7.30am (inc. a 10 - 10min at the end of this 'A' time for wind down for her nap)*
S 8.30 - 1.5hr   :-\ if shorter and you haven't been able to extend then you would do EASA

    E 10am
A 10.30am (inc. a 10 - 10min at the end of this 'A' time for wind down for her nap)*
S 11.30 - 1.5hr   :-\ if shorter and you haven't been able to extend then you would do EASA

    E 1300
A 1330 (inc. a 10 - 10min at the end of this 'A' time for wind down for her nap)*
S 1430 - 1.5hr   :-\ if shorter and you haven't been able to extend then you would do EASA

    E 1600
     A 1630
     S 1730 - catnap only  30 - 45mins

E 1900 & bath or vice versa    or    E 1800   &    2000  with bath in the middle (clusterfeeding)
     S 1930                                       S 2030

Thank you!
Okay, so my next question is about the 7am feeding. She is waking between 5 and 6am, which is between 5 and 6 hours after her df. Do I feed her when she wakes and then again at 7am? This is the most confusing part for me! Thanks!

If she is hungry then feed her between 5 and 6am - treat this as a night feed.

The option you have is to either give a full feed between 5 and 6am and top her up at 7am then feed at 10am

OR
give a top up between 5 and 6am to see her through to a full feed at 7am, than feed at 10am.

Got it!
She doesn't feed all that well at 5 or 6, so maybe I'll just top her at 7.
Thanks so much!

This is perfect.  I am having the exact same questions.  My little guy will be 8 weeks in a few days.  I have already begun noticing issues starting after his 4:00pm feed.  He has been having trouble getting to sleep at night.  I was thinking of trying to keep him asleep until 7:00pm and then do a dream feed.  My little guy wakes up at 4:00am for a feed, so I don't have your other issue.  He used to sleep until 6am but that has disappeared.  I am not sure why.  Thanks for the great info.
