Very small prob, would apprecaite ideas if any
« on: August 02, 2006, 20:32:44 pm »
Hi All,
My problem is tiny but would just like another point of view.
4 weeks ago back from hols where all went well sleep wise, fantastic even and all went well for the first week at home. 2nd week and start to have a tiny problem everynight. DD goes to bed 7.30 no probs, but we have the call to prayer at 7.55pm and 8.15 pm and she started to wake or at least scream through this every second night. I go in straight away because it's hysterical screaming the kind that if ignored would escalate and quickly, one night it took us 45 mins to settle her but now it takes 10 seconds, I go in say it's ok your dolly is next to you and I will tuck you in again and I leave even though the prayers are still going on. But now it's been every night for the last 7 nights, plus tonight she did 7.55 pm ( on schedule), 8.10 pm for some strange reason and 8.15 pm ( on schedule). I have tried to calm her by talking from outside the door which worked on other occasions but not now. She hears it during the day too and doesnt pass any remarks. I havent actually made any reference to the noise as I know how she is and it will turn into " whats man praying doing" plus I certainly dont want her to think of the same thing at 4 am , thankfully til now she hasnt woken for this one. Household noise is the same as usual , she can hear me of dh in the kitchen or living room and tv is at the same volume it always has been and she can hear it from her room. I wake her every morning, wake her from her nap and she has no problem settling for her nap or no real problem settling at night it's just when this starts. Dh thinks it has now become a habit that I go to her so quickly but its 10 seconds and the night I didnt get there fast enough as I was in the kitchen and not expecting a wake up it took her 45 mins to settle. Do not want to introduce white noise at this stage as feel it would be counter productive, wake to sleep is impossible as she is surely not asleep by then, later bed time not possible either as it needs to stay 7.30 as she is tired by then and me too.
Any ideas? Will she outgrow it? Just wondering ? and if there is anything I can do though doubt it  ::)

For this to work depends upon how much your lo understands but we had something similar and I did the following

1) Ask DD to look at me and tell her I am not coming in until the morning in an clear voice and make sure she's heard me. She didn't actually bother to cry out that night.

2) Tell her that if she stays in her bed all night without crying out you will give her a special treat. I did this for a couple of nights but didn't continue it in case she got used to it. I sometimes still use it now and it does sometimes work.

You could use white noise to see if you can break the habit and then withdraw after a couple of days.

Not sure if this helps.

Hi J,
I tried treat tonight, treat of going off in the car with Daddy tomorrow. But she started as soon as she went to bed and I had to do wi/wo for 40 mins, well I did 4 times and dh did the last 2. She settled at 8.20 right after the last call to prayer so now I am wondering if she was not holding out for it iykwim. Think I will have to continue with this for a while and pop over to that thread  :-[

Sorry it didn't help. Hopefully if you do wi/wo with little attention she will get bored of it soon.

Good luck.
