dream feeds at 2weeks old
« on: August 06, 2006, 11:53:01 am »
hello all

Im in the process of getting to grips with putting baby Talulah on easy but am having some teething problems and not sure if its because im expecting too much from her at 2 weeks old!

im trying to stick to the 2.5/3 hour feed rule but she often either wakes up before the times up (especially in the am) or i cant wake her enough to feed (more so in the early pm and evening)..therefore her feed tmes are different every day..is this ok while weīr both getting aquainted with life or am i doing something wrong??

also the dream feed..?......im not cluster feeding because shes usually asleep an theres no way shes waking to feed twice in a couple of hours so by 11 its either time for a feed anyway or we go over an she feeds at 12/1pm but then maybe wakes at 5am for next feed.....how do i get her to eat a dream feed???

any advice would be fabulous!!!!

Hollybush,
I think it's perfectly normal for a 2 week old to feed "erratically". and IMHO for such a young age I wouldn't bother with "sticking to" any hour feed rule. I mean sure, you shouldn't be feeding her every time she cries or every hour IYKWIM, but she's still adapting to the world and needs lots of sleep. as long as she's feeding well and gaining weight I wouldn't worry. I know that Tracy recommended waking LOs for feeds but every time I tried it with my dd she would cry A LOT and be so hard to settle down.

also the dream feed..?......I'm not cluster feeding because shes usually asleep an theres no way shes waking to feed twice in a couple of hours so by 11 its either time for a feed anyway or we go over an she feeds at 12/1pm but then maybe wakes at 5am for next feed.....how do i get her to eat a dream feed???

sometimes it can be very hard to DF a sleeping LO as she's sound asleep and won't even try to suck. but once again, for a 2 week old baby it's perfectly normal to wake a lot at night to feed. they still can't tell day from night and for them it makes no difference if its noon or midnight if they're hungry.

anyway, you may want to take a look at this post:

it explains how to introduce a DF.

Hello Lauren!!

Erm..you know I think I have some intuition but it needs fine tuning a bit!!

Talulah is a good baby and Im just struggling with the lack of sleep really. She does seem to suffer with gas so it can take me awhile to settle her..especially at the 2/3am feed when it takes until 4am for her to sleep. I cant not burp her even if shes sleeping at the end of her feed because shes then in pain after 15 mins back in her crib...its takes so long to burp her, any suggestions?? also she makes sooo much noise when she sleeps, really loud grunts which Im presuming is wind, that I cant sleep through it so weīr thinking of moving her to her own room (we live in a small flat so its near our room and we have monitors)..do you think thats ok at 2 weeks??

Thank you for all your support, I think its probably whats keeping me going at the moment..but baby Talulah is just perfect! ;D

Lol

Holly

Is baby Talulah on any type of medication i.e infacol  http://www.infacol.co.uk/infacol.cfm  (not sure if you are in the UK or not  :-\ )

Q : From what age can I give infacol?

A : Infacol can be used from birth onwards, unlike gripe waters, which are only suitable for babies of 1 month old, or over.

Also not sure how you are feeding but here is Tracys info on Gastric feeding pain, so you can determine if it is wind, colic or reflux https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=68054.0

Thelink also explains what you can do to help her i.e elevating the mattress and how to burp.
