problems with breasts
« on: August 06, 2006, 13:48:53 pm »
I have needle like pain shooting up  my breasts , not when Im feeding, but after.  Also, thye are sore and tender.  My nipples dont necesarily hurt or bother me, only when he first latches on, wfor about 1 second, which is normal from what ive heard.  I also have really itchy skin, towards the back of my breasts and under my neck.  Is this normal, and what is it??  Thanks for your help, just not sure what it could be.  Christie

I had pain like this both my little ones, and it was a yeast infection in the nipples.  It can be VERY painful and you need to get it treated right away.  Often you need to treat both the mom and baby, as the baby will have thrush in his mouth.  Oral Diflucan, plus monistat on the breasts, often helps you, plus nystatin for the baby.  Also, I take Acidophilus pills (the good bacteria that is in yogurt), as these fight against the yeast. I hate to say it but this will not get better on it's own.  And you may have to talk to several people until you get what you need.  Pediatrician, OBGYN, Lactation consultant.  But don't stop until you feel better, and you will.  Good Luck.

Shooting pains after feed, itchiness, tenderness - I have to say I agree that your description could fit thrush/ yeast infection.

Completely agree....get yourself to a MD who knows how to treat that yeast infection!
