Should I switch to 3 bottles?????
« on: August 09, 2006, 20:44:48 pm »
Hi Ladies!  DS is 8 months old and is starting to drink less  - 8oz bottles to 6oz bottles 4 times a day and that is sometimes more than usual.  DS is often only taking 4-5ozs at the 11/11:30 feed and the same with the 4:00 feed.  I don't know if this is a sign to start transitioning to 3 bottles.  He is doing well with solids and is trying some finger foods even though we still do not have any teeth.  He is also 21 pounds.  If anywone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.  It is funny I just can't remember what we did when our dd was this age and switching to fewer bottles.

Thanks!!!!

Ryan dropped a feed at 9 months and by 10 months was only on 2 bottles morning and night .If he is still sleeping well at night and not showing signs of hunger i would say it's ok .He is getting full with solids .He started drinking less at the 2 middle feeds , we still offered for a bit but made less oz feeds just so he could have a wash down after his solids , he was soon refusing these too so we offered water instead .If you are concerned about his milk intake then you could add the milk to his solids where you can

Lisa,

By 8 months Thomas was only on 3 bottles a day.

1 x 8oz at Breakfast
1 x 7oz at 2:30pm
1 x 8oz at 7:00pm before bed

We made up his dropped bottle by giving him yogurts and cheeses etc.

By 10 months Thomas was on 2 bottles and is still having these now.

Thanks Ladies!  Today he only took 4 ounces at 11:30am so we are going to work on the switch gradually.  Do you think I should give the 2nd bottle before his afternoon nap or after????   He typically naps at around 9:15 am and then again around 2/2:30p.m.  Our bedtime is about 7:30/7:45pm.  I appreciate the advice.

I would suggest giving him his bottle before his afternoon nap - that is what we always did.
