Dear all
I am looking for any advice that may be on offer. My dd is 9 weeks old and has suffered from colic since 2 weeks old. She is my 2nd child and I thought I might find it a bit easier this time around , I started off with 21/2 hour EASY but it all went a bit pear shaped at two weeks when she started crying inconsolably. Having tried various different remedies- infacol, osteopath and changing feeds etc she has improved a lot but is still a very fussy baby during the day and tends to be very ,very upset from 6pm to 11pm. As a result a lot accidental parenting has happened,In the last week she is a good sleeper at night from 11.30 to 5-6am however during the day I find I am spending my whole day trying to get her to nap. She feeds very well with a very big appetite, she is also quite gassy and she is extremely difficult to get to nap. The only way I can get her to nap, is to hold her tight against me, shushing and rocking, she protests vigourously for several minutes and as the day progresses she can scream for up to 20 to 30 minutes in my arms before she goes to sleep. unfortunately the problem only begins there, she wakes within 5 mins of me putting her down and I find it impossible to get her back to sleep unless i go through the whole rocking crying cycle again.I often let her sleep in my arms just so she'll get a nap as I know the overtiredness is a major factor in our difficulties.Even in my arms when she comes out of her first sleep cycle, often I cannot get her to settle again so naps are very rarely longer than 45 mins.as a result she often has to be fed every 2- 21/2 hours to console her and is very fussy and can rarely be let down for 5 mins during the day without crying. Our evenings are spent pacing the house with her in our arms trying to settle her and she rarely crys for less than two hours.the desperation of a crying child has made us try any prop to settle her but car rides, swings and strolller rides only make her worse.I have a three year child who is being seriously neglected as a result of all this, and almost dread each day where it is a battle to get her to rest, i would love some advice from those of you who have colicky babies or difficulties with naps, i know I have created alot of these problems and I am desperate for any advice on how to tackle this, should we ride it out until she is 3- 4 months in ths hope that she will settle or should I return to EASY and persevere despite an upset dd.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
