Cooled boiled water
« on: August 10, 2006, 11:39:08 am »
I have been giving my son cooled boiled water since starting solids but what i want to know is when can you give water straight from the tap or bottled water??? I read somewhere you can stop boiling the water at 6 months, but i am not sure so i have just continued to boil it to be on the safe side.

FWIW, I never boiled our water.  We are on well water with a UV light, so I know there is no chemicals or bactieria in it.

According to Super Baby Food, it refers to boiling for the "very young baby".  You can always put a call in to the ped and ask them.

I never boiled our water...I think it largely depends on where you live and how confident you are in your water system.

It is dependent where you live I think. Here is Scotland we have lovely fresh water that comes from reservoirs and it is safe to drink straight from the tap, but somewhere like the S.E of England have 'hard water' which often contains lime and should really be filtered.

I read that most bottled water contains sodium so is not ideal for young babies  :-\ I guess everyone gets different info depending where you live!

We've discussed this before, a while back. In America and Canada, bottled water is just plain water, whereas in Europe, it's mineral water (which obviously has minerals in it, incl sodium), so it's OK to give los bottled water in America, but not here.

FWIW, I stopped boiling water at about 6 months, but our water is lovely and soft (you should see my hair when I wash it down South :o :o). It really depends where you live.

HTH :)

Bottled water in the UK/Europe is ok depending on the brand, eg. Evian is ok.  If you read the bottles they either say 'not suitable for under 36 months' or 'suitable for a low sodium diet' and those are the ones to go for if you're out and need to buy bottled.  HTH.

Caroline, I live in the South and have curly hair and I love it when I wash it anywhere but here as it goes all springy and curly.  Here it's rubbish!

I live in Norway and the water is very good here, just being careful, but its so good to hear from other what they think. thank you all.  Interesting to hear the difference between American bottled water and European.
