We also introduced it around 12 months and he loved it . We waited untill 12 months as it has egg in it  , we weren't sure if he could have it . This year after having a long break from custard we introduced it again and he cam out in a rash  ??? but he was also suffering a viral infection both times so it could have been that ,It was the only thing he would eat.

You can buy it ready made?!?!?  YUM!

Is it like the stuff in Milfe's (sp)?  In the US we call them Napoleaons.  DH is Canadian and calls them Milfe's.  The custard/creme in those are always so good.

Unless either one of the parents or a sibling suffers from asthma, hayfever and eczema it should be fine :)

Steffi hun, its right that people need to watch our when they introduce foods if they or the family have allergies.. but I have all three.. excema, hayfever and asthma.. DH has hayfever and asthma and Will has excema.. and he has ambrosia custard and he is absolutely fine with it and can't get enough of it! If introduced with caution it should be fine!

The problem isn't that allergens cause the allergy immediately. If a baby eats something that is an allergen and is fine afterwards it doesn't mean that that is fine... The allergy can develop years later and the allergens might have helped that. Anyway, new research has been found that even children who's parents do have asthma, eczema and hayfever can have small amounts of dairy after 6 months.
On the other hand, I never did just to be on the safe side and he was missing out on a lot of stuff...

The German Association for Asthma and Allergies has just found out that due to the precautions the people take (mainly the feeding of hypoallergenic formula that is not available here, not talking about Nutramigen) has decreased the numbers allergies and asthma for the first time ever. Germany's children now have less allergies and asthma than just a few years ago because of the knowledge given to the parents. As far as I know in all the other countries the numbers are still rising, just in Germany they are dropping. Because DH has asthma, eczema and hayfever we have been informed what to do very well and got loads of leaflets and addresses and info at his birth. It is also all marked in his wee health book even if he never had any symptoms.

Yes Steffi you are right of course.. but we have to be careful but not avoid everything just in case or babies might end up with a very limited diet.  I had a very very major allergic reaction to a banana at the age of four.. and had been eating banana for yrs before.. so we cannot begin to guess what may be responsible for problems later on.

For others interested in this have a peek at the thread I popped into the health board some time ago regarding precautions you can take to avoid allergies.
