should i wake my lo up in the am?
« on: August 14, 2006, 03:17:05 am »
Hi All - I'm super new here. We are on EASY and have been since birth. My LO usually wakes himself up at about 8 or 8:30am. Should I wake him up at 8am instead of letting him decide what to do?
xoxo.

Hi dannymomma,

Welcome to BW. =)

I'm not sure if I'm going to be much help but I usually wake up my LO to stick with our EASY schedule.  I've always been told that babies like predictability so that's why I wake up my LO to keep him on schedule.  I have tried to let DS decide when to wake up but I found that it messed up our schedule as he may go down for his naps later or he may have a harder time going to sleep at night.

My DD usually and always has woken between 7&7.30am and i take her lead. I still put her down at her nap regardless of when she wakes and this works for us. I think at this age you can be a little flexible.

When my ds used to  wake at 8:15am i used toleave him until then.It is a routine and not a schedule and so i followed his cues and didn't force anything on him.

He nowwakes at 6am most mornings due to the fact that my eldest ds wakes at this time and would wake the whole house. Theo (youngest) got used to waking at this time now though.

If you are ok with your ds waking at thses times and do not need to rush out of the house early every morning and is on a good routine, then i saw to leave him be so long as he is happy.

DS was always grumpy after being woken up and I felt it is not worth it. He usually wakes up between 6 and 6.30 but sometimes sleeps until 7 or 7.30... I am woken up by him always! So I try to catch all morning sleep that I can... The only time I wake him up is from his last nap... no longer than 3.30 or the nightsleep is affected
