Help, waking up every two hours...
« on: August 16, 2006, 02:22:46 am »
Help!  My one year old is waking up every two hours and won't go back to sleep.

I'm not quit sure what started it all.  It could be a mixture of a lot of things.  He was sleeping fine up until now.  Occasionally during teething he'll wake up a few times throughout the night, but never this bad.  About three weeks ago I took him to Colorado thinking that he would be bad there and forget how to sleep.  But surprisingly he was the best ever in Colorado.  He slept well during naps and didn't wake up at all throughout the nights in Colorado.  Once we got back he's been a monster.  He's been waking up every two hours, and I can't put him back to sleep.  When I do put him back to sleep it usually takes 2-3 hours before he sleeps.

Could it be from the trip to Colorado?  The fact that he learned how to roll over?  Seperation anxiety? Hungry?  I don't know.  What should I do.

For the first week after getting back from Colorado, if my LO woke up I would wait a while to see if he could get himself back to sleep.  That never happened, so I would go in and lay him back down and walk out the door.  I would repeat this until he stayed down and go back to sleep.  Now he wakes up and will sit up immediately and cry and scream until someone go in.  If you tried to lay him down he'll scream and kick.  I use to take only about 5 mins to get him back to sleep if he was having a tough night.  Now it's taking anywhere from 2-3 hours, if not longer.  Then he'll wake up again in two hours.

I'm losing my patience and I'm 2 months pregnant with my second child and I fear I might lose it.  Can anyone give me any advice?  I'll take any advice I can get.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!! That's great!!  :-*

LOs often will have an adjustment period after a vacation or being somewhere different. They're very sensitive to their environments, and changes like that can affect sleep. I'm sure that has at least something to do with the wakings. Is the rolling the only milestone right now? Is he walking or crawling?

He's not crawling yet, and he likes to walk when someone is holding his hands.

Those milestones can really affect sleep - the best way to combat it is to make sure they get all the time they want to practice during the day.
