Bad mummy today!!!
« on: August 16, 2006, 17:11:11 pm »
I have been a bad mummy today,First I forgot to give my DS his lunch,I remmembered when he was asleep so when he woke up at 3pm I gave it to him then and he was OK.He still slept for 2 hours at lunch time. Then he has a bottle at 4pm and I put it on then we went out and I forgot to give it to him,and only realized when we returned home at 6pm.

He wasn't grumpy at all when we were out,so what I am wondering should I be looking at cutting his bottles down from 4 to 3 or just go back to what we were doing before?
Also should I be looking at changing him to food first then bottle yet?He is 8months old,but he thinks he is older mind you!!!

This is his routine now.

7am awake and 180ml
8am breakfast 60ml of formula
9.45-10.45/11.45 sleep

12noon 180ml
1pm lunch
1.30/2pm-3.30/4pm sleep

4pm 180ml
6pm tea time
7.30/8pm 210ml and bed

He doesn't normally sleep this long during the day he is cutting teeth,so has been sleeping this long during the day for last month.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Andrea....

Andrea!!!

Repeat after me....... "I am not a bad mummy!!!! :P"

When Calum was dropping from 4 to 3 bottles I accidently forgot to give him his middle one and it was also at dinner time I remembered :-[ - I haven't forgotten since  ;)

If want to try going to 3 bottle then try fitting in the 2nd bottle before his nap at 1330/1400 - but don't get in the habit of feeding to sleep.  Calum went to 3 at around the same time.  here is another sample https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=67398.0

Hugs Andrea - you are not a bad mummy.

Thomas was also on 3 bottles a day around that age, and we also tried to fit his afternoon bottle in at around 14:00 before his nap.

Let us know how you get on.

Andrea,

At 8 months, our schedule looked something like this:-

7:00 - Bottle and cereal - we always did our cereal straight after the bottle

10:00 ish we did a small snack to tide over to lunch time

12:00 - Lunch

2:00 - Bottle

4:30 / 5:00 - Dinner

7:00 - Bottle - Bed

Let us know what you decide to do.

Definitely, if that works for you and your lo.

I wish I could get DS to have his dinner time that way round - it would give us all a chance to eat together - but I am not having my dinner at 4:30  ::)

A yogurt would probably be better to make up the bottle you are dropping.

That sounds perfect.

If you say your lo goes down at 10:00 for a nap, you may want to offer a small snack just before to tide him over until his lunch.

When we dropped the lunch time bottle our DS did not miss it at all.  Just make sure you are offering plenty of liquids throught the dayand with lunch and dinner to make sure he says hydrated.

Let us know how things go.

Paula,

Just wanted to let you no so far so good.Yesterday was his first day with only 3 bottles and went ok,he loved the yogurt, will do that for 3 days and i get a thing here which has youart, and banana in so will try that on sunday for a snack.

He has changed his sleeps around now,and only having one hour in morning and that has been from 10-11 the last 2 days,so should i give him a snack before he goes to sleep?
And also am finding trying to hold him to 1.30-2 for a bottle he is getting grumpy and tired, any tips on trying to get him to go to at least 1.30 and down for a sleep at 2.

Andrea..

Andrea,

You can give him a snack if he wants one - We used to give Thomas a piece of toast with a bit of cream cheese on it - he used to love it.

Is there no way that he will sleep longer in the morning?  If not, are you able to get him to have longer awake time in the morning before he goes down for his first nap.

When you say he is getting grumpy in the afternoon, what sort of time is this?

Paula,

Up to 2 days ago he was having up to 2 hours in morning and 2 hours in afternoon and this is not normally for him.He is cutting his top two teeth's so put it down to that.

When he was having 3 sleeps a day all 3 were for one hour each, did try and extend it but never got anywhere so just let it be,as he was sleep the whole night Thur.

He starts to get wingey and clingy and when i gave him the bottle at 1.30pm it went down quickly, then out him down and he slept for 2hours.

Another problem I thought of today in about 3.5 weeks my DD starts school and I have to pick her up at 3pm,and it will be like that until Jan when the time will change to 5 pm.
So i will probably have to bring the sleep times forward, should i just play it by ear until the time gets closer or try and change it now?

Thank you for your help
Andrea...
