Stinky, thick greenish yellow poop
« on: August 17, 2006, 16:49:41 pm »
My 4 month old has had trouble pooping for the past month.  She used to be totally normal - once a day, yellow poop.  Now she gets constipated and goes every 3-4 days.  Her gas and poop smells like adult poop.  It is much thicker then the yellow bf poop that she used to have.  She has not been given solids so I am concerned she might have an allergy.  Any ideas?  Why the suddon change?

Have you had anything new to eat that could be affecting her through your BM?

Is lo exclusively bf?  Don't know about the stinky and thick part but I have been told that greenish poop is often because of too much foremilk from switching sides too quick.  Doesn't sound like your problem with the other issues, but thought I would throw in just in case.  Also, don't worry too much about the 3 to 4 days, my doctor said that it is normal for some bf babies to only go once a week.  {{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}

Hi,

I can't think of any new foods that I have eaten consistently over the past 5 weeks.  I ate more seafood on vacation but nothing more then once or twice.  As for a virus, that could be it.  She has been sick with a runny nose and fever over the past little while.  She is better now but still has a stuffed up nose. That just might be it.  I will keep an eye on things over the next little while to see if things go back to normal.

Thanks so much for you help!

Hi,

Thanks for the help everyone.  She had her first normal poo today after 6 weeks of very stinky green ones.  I do think it was the virus that she had.  Poor thing.  I will keep an eye on it.  It don't ever remember this happening to my toddler - must have been a bad virus..
