Bottle to sippy question
« on: August 20, 2006, 22:33:16 pm »
If someone could give a little advice or just forward a helpful post they may know about as I'm sure this is a popular topic...whats the easiest way to transition the morning bottle to sippy? My lo has been drinking water out of the sippy pretty well lately, but he's stubborn & still very reliant on his milk being in a bottle...I've tried everything Tracy has said (such as making sure there is only 4 ounces, etc...) but he still just wont do it.  I'm working on tackling the afternoon bottle (changing it to sippy) but I'm just curious how you all get your lo's to make that transition for am/pm...thanks!

To drop the AM bottle, I would prepare DS's breakfast before I brought him downstairs for the day.  That way, when he woke, I would change his diaper and bring him right down to eat his breakfast.  I would offer his sippy cup with milk at this time.  It took quite a while, probably a good month or so before he drank a good amount of milk from his sippy.  In the meantime, I just made sure he ate lots of cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese etc, to make up for the drop in calcium.

All right...I lied...it probably took a good 2-3 months before he took enough milk from his sippy cup.    :-[ :-[ :-[

To drop an afternoon bottle, I would just offer a snack at the normal bottle time.  I found the mid day bottles, the easiest to drop.

Hope that helps.    :) :) :)

Good Luck!
Judy

Thanks! That's actually very encouraging because I was trying to do the exact same thing...change his diaper & get him ready, then bring him downstairs & offer the sippy with breakfast...I thought I must have been doing it the wrong way because he never seemed to pay any attention to the sippy...I guess I will keep trying because if it takes that long I better start now! :) :)

Glad to hear it worked for you...I guess I just need to have a little more patience!
