Resources for Feeding Solids
« on: August 24, 2006, 18:54:28 pm »
Although both “The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer” and “The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems” both contain information on introducing solids, many parents have used these in tandem with other resources to help with the solids journey. Below is a list of some of the more commonly used books with a brief description of each:

“Super Baby Food” by Ruth Yaron
Possibly the most comprehensive book on feeding solids. It provides a month-by-month guide to feeding your baby. It contains extensive information on making your own baby food, infant and toddler nutrition, when to introduce foods, and whole host of do-it-yourself household tips. It also offers a guide for feeding toddlers and a selection of recipes.. Because it is a very long book, it can often be difficult to find information. It’s geared toward a vegetarian diet, so it doesn’t include information about introducing meats and incorporating them into a baby’s diet.

“Contented Little Baby Book of Weaning” by Gina Ford
Includes a food introduction schedule and details on preparing your own baby food. The routines recommended in the book are based on Gina Ford’s teachings but can be adapted to work with EASY. It also includes recipes.

“New Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner” by Annabel Karmel

Features meal planners for each stage of eating, from solids introduction to toddler age. It gives ideas of how different foods can be combined to make a week’s worth of meals. It contains quite a few recipes that are appropriate for babies, toddlers, and adults.

“First Meals” by Annabel Karmel
Gives helpful information broken down by age. It offers many ideas for snacks, meals, and contains nutritional advice. Most of the meals featured are freezable.

“Top 100 Baby Purees” by Annabel Karmel
Very easy to read. Information and recipes are broken down by age.

“Superfoods: For Babies and Children” by Annabel Karmel
Very easy to read. It has meal plans and recipes that are grouped together by age.

“Baby and Toddler Eating Plan” by Lorraine Kelly
Very easy, funny, and interesting read. It features quick and easy recipes and advice for busy parents.
