5 1/2 mo Old-started EASY- Have Questions.
« on: August 26, 2006, 20:01:42 pm »
Hi,

New to Easy. 5 1/2 mo old Baby girl catnaps at first nap and wakes up hungry-ends up 3-3.5 hours instead of 4 hours in the morning. Will not go back to sleep. Will make 4 hours through the afternoon. Is this OK?  Would starting Solid in AM help?

Also wakes at 5 am hungry and takes a big feed despite dream feed and cluster - she finds it difficult to settle-although she does .  Routine looks like this

5 am feed
Sleep
8 am Feed
1030 Cat Nap-try gard with pupd, no succes yet to extend it
1130 Feed
2 Sleep
330 feed
530 cat nap
730 feed
8pm sleep
1130 dream feed

thanks
Andrea

Hi Andrea

How long do each of her sleeps last?

Her first nap is approx 30 minutes

Her second nap is 1 hour and a half

Her catnap in the early evening is 30 minutes

she is sleeping from bedtime till  5 am, but will wake up for the dream feed  at 11 if I miss it

I think waking for a feed at 5am is perfectly reasonable for a baby of her age.  Zander started solids at 6 months and didn't drop that early morning feed until 7 months so hopefully you'll find a similar thing happens over the next couple of months.

3 hours seems to be a very long A time for her age but she has her best nap after that second long A time, maybe she's just a baby who can handle more awake time?!  Does she seem happy during the day or like she needs more sleep?

She seems pretty happy, although as she gets tired, she wants to be held more and gets bored easily. In the am, before her first nap, she starts yawning after being awake 45 minutes and she wants to eat the second she wakes up from the am nap, so I try to keep her up and she gets fussy. Otherwise 4 hour easy gets way thrown off

Does she settle well at that first nap or do you think she's a little overtired?  You could try to put her down earlier to see if that helps.
