How to start occasional formula for BF babies?
« on: September 02, 2006, 23:34:17 pm »
Hello - I hope I'm not repeating an often-asked question here....

I am breastfeeding my 16 week old twin boys and I pump to get milk for the DF. The past couple of weeks, my milk has settled, and I no longer can get the DF milk in one pumping session (and I am finding it hard to find time during the day to pump). I would like to pump for the DF (I get between 3-4 ounces), and make up the remainder 5-6 ounces needed with formula. How do I start this? Do I need to start them slowly on the formula? Do I mix it with breastmilk?

Please help!

Kathy

I would go ahead and pump what you can and then add the formula (make it separately to get the correct proportions and pour it in to top off the bottle.)

So, it's best to mix the EBM and formula, instead of two bottles for each baby?

Yup!  That way there is no "break" in the df.... KWIM?  BabyBsMommy has done the df like this for quite some time.  I'm sure she'd be happy to "talk" to you too.
