10 days into sleep training-will have to be put down by MIL
« on: August 28, 2006, 17:53:02 pm »
Hey girls-DH and I are going to a wedding on Sunday and staying over (BLISS!).  Cole will have to be put down by MIL...who recently watched him for two weeks.  She only put him down for naps during that time and we are still holding him to sleep for naps (working on one thing at a time)  DH has put Cole down maybe two times in the last 6 months.

My Q-should I have DH try a couple of times this week, given that wi/wo is going so well, in order to get Cole used to someone else putting him down?  Would it be fair to ask MIL to do wi/wo?  I don't think Cole will have trouble going down, but who knows, right.
I suppose as an alternate plan, she could TRY wi/wo and if he seems very upset, hold him to sleep.  I'm not worried about one night ruining sleep training...I just want him to sleep well for MIL and I think he'll sleep through better if not held.

any ideas?  thanks!

If MIL's in for wi/wo, i'd say give that a try. IF Cole's already getting the hint is better to have consistancy on the method even if it's just for one night. Totally agree with you, if he seems upset for more than 30 mins let her hold him.

What I've done with my own MIL when she puts ds down when we (rarely LOL) go out, is that she goes to my place the night before to help me do the bath and wind down for night so he's used to granny putting him down for the following night and it works like a charm.

Hope everything turns out ok and have fun on the wedding!!!!!!!!

thanks.  unfortunately, MIL doesn't live close enough to do a dry run.  too bad I didn't do sleep training while she was here a few weeks ago.  he's very familiar with her though...so I anticipate it will go well.  And if it doesn't, I just have to remember, it's not for me to worry about for that night anyway ;D

This is only my second night away from Cole.  First night was two saturdays ago when I went to the bachorlette party for the same bride-to-be.  of course, I woke up at 6:30 a.m. and couldn't get back to sleep ::)  I'd better be able to sleep in this time!!!
