Which formula???? (UK)
« on: August 29, 2006, 10:20:55 am »
Hello there

I have a question preying on my mind and would be very grateful for any advice.

Having exclusively breastfed my first lo into toddlerhood, I would like to mixed feed number 2 for a bit of extra freedom. The only problem is that I have no idea which formula to choose! I will mainly breastfeed until 6 months but certainly plan to use at least 1 bottle a day from about 4 weeks all being well.

Is there any real difference between the main brands? What about the organic brands? Help!

Then there's the question of which bottles to use???? I have never so much as held a baby bottle!

Thanks a million

Charlotte

My maternity hosptital advised me that Aptimel was the closest to breastmilk, because of all the additions they put in it.  I have also se SMA on holiday, and compared to Aptimel I thought it tasted synthetic.

I know sweet FA about this. I used to use cow and gate because it came in those lovely boxes, but a friend of mine whose daughter has an egg allergy recently read a box of aptimel and said it had egg and something else (I firget what) in it. So maybe not as good for babies prone to allergies? I have no idea. I chop and change all the time myself. I do know that they don't all taste the same because I let my toddler finish off any leftovers (hate wasting food, me) and there was one kind he wouldn't drink, I forget which.

Calum has an egg allergy  ;), the ready made cartons of aptimel contain egg lipids, these (I was assured by Calums Ped) were not the same and doesn't affect the egg allergy.

When I started using formula I was recommended aptamil by a paediatric nutritionist ( a friend of my sister's that worked in the high-dependency units with prem babies etc).
Matthew never had any trouble.
