Formula intake dropping
« on: August 30, 2006, 01:40:08 am »
My DD is 7.5 months she is an excellent sleeper and eater (sort of).  In the past three weeks, however, she's gone from drinking formula and eating a good number of solids to drinking much less formula.

This is our old schedule

7:30 Wake

E: 7:45 (6-7 oz)
Solids 8:30 (1tbs cereal + 1-2tbs fruit or veggie)
S 9:00-10:45
E 11:30 (6-7 oz)
Solids 12:30 (2-4 tbs fruit and veggie)
A
S 1:00-2:30
E 3:00-3:30 (5-6 oz)
A
S 4:30-5:15
E Solids 5:30) (2-3 tbs fruit and veggie)
   Bottle 6:45 (6-7 oz)
S 7:30 (8:00)

DF 10:30 (6-7 oz)

We tried to drop the dreamfeed three weeks ago, but DD just wasn't ready and so we went back.  Recently she has really dropped her formula intake.

Here is our schedule now

7:30 Wake

E: 7:45 (3-5 oz)
Solids 8:30 (2tbs cereal + 2-3tbs fruit or veggie)
S 9:00-10:45
E 11:30 (3-5 oz)
Solids 12:30 (3-4 tbs fruit and veggie)
A
S 1:00-2:30
E 3:00-3:30 (3-5 oz)
A
S 4:30-5:15
E Solids 5:30) (2-4 tbs fruit and veggie)
   Bottle 6:45 (5-6 oz)
S 7:30 (8:00)

DF 10:30 (6-7 oz)

(She is also eating some finger foods, we have introduced her to chicken, we have tried yogurt and cottage cheese-she's not a big fan)

I am pretty sure it's time to drop a bottle, but based on what she's eating I don't think it's the dreamfeed (maybe I'm wrong??) I have no idea what to do or how to do it.

Here is what I've tried:

Delaying bottles (i.e. not feeding her at 11:30-waiting until 11:45 or 12:00)
Feeding solids first then bottles (to try delay the feed)

Everytime I have tried something it doesn't seem to work.  When I offer the bottle she is begging (and I do mean begging) for food but then she only drinks the few ounces.  This is at 4 hrs...pushing it makes her beg for food the same way but she isn't drinking more.

I am perfectly fine leaving it this way if you think she is doing fine, but if a problem is jumping out  I will take any and all suggestions.  What do you think I should do?  Leave it?  Fix it?  What?  How?

TIA

You may find that the dreamfeed is what is causing your lo to drop her formula intake.

It may be better, if you try to cut out the dreamfeed and add the extra oz to her day time bottles, she may start taking more.

Have a look at this link, it tells you how to drop the dreamfeed and add the extra oz to the day time bottles.

When I tried dropping the dream feed, she wouldn't icrease her day time bottles and began to wake up early, whiny, but not necessariy hungry.  I can try again though if you think that will help.

Did you try dropping the dreamfeed by adding an oz to the day time bottle and taking an oz away from the dreamfeed?

Hi I did it that way (I think that's the way the BW recommends)...DD just won't take extra...I can just stay with the three oz bottles, but I wonder if I'm doing the right thing KWIM??

We tried it over a week (the beginning)  She just didn't react well to it.  I know a lot can change in a few weeks though so I guess we'll be trying it this weekend!!

Thanks for the help!
