This formula smells YUCKY!
« on: September 01, 2006, 03:23:38 am »
My milk supply is low because I just started birth control.   :'(  I had to start giving Kaitlyn formula to top off my feeds and gave her Enfamil A+.  I noticed her eczema flare up so my doctor told me to switch her to Nutramigen instead.  She doesn't really like it . . . and I think it smells disgusting!   :-X  It makes my stomach churn when I make it.  Is there any other formulas I could try?  Any suggestions?  :)

Does she need a lactos free formula or a milk free formula?

I know...  It is absolutely gross.   :P  If she HAS to have a hypoallergenic formula, than Alimentum smells a tiny bit better, not much though.    Can you ask your doc about trying a soy formula, or a whey-based formula like Good Start, first before the hypo formulas?

Try using the ready to feed kinds - you can hold your breath while you pour lol.

They are yucky, months ago when we started the Alimentum I was forever tasting it to be sure it wasn't too warm - YUCK!

...its what you do when you get back up.

You know what?  I have no idea if it needs to be lactose free or milk free . . . my doctor didn't say so . . . :( I'll try to get in to see her in the next couple of days.  You know what though, When I first started solids with Kaitlyn I tried Nestle rice cereal and she got a rash under her chin and I suspect it was because of the skim milk powder in it.  So maybe it's the milk?  If it is I'd have to try the soy then, but I also heard that soy isn't good for babies under a year old - is this true or just more mumbo jumbo I hear from all sorts of unwanted advice?  ::)

hahahaha!  As for it being smelly, I can't imagine my little one liking the taste of it.  If I can't stand it how could she?   :-X  I feel so bad.  Why do my boobs have to be so difficult?!   :'(

The first thing you want to do is talk to your doctor. Find out why they wanted you to swtch and what they recomend. Soy is not bad for babies, but its also not good. Its one of those things where if it needs to be soy then have soy, but soy introduced to early can cause problems. Soy is also a very high risk for allergies in LO's under 12 months. Sometimes you can stick with a milk based formula sometimes not. All the formula's are made with different ingreadiants and while no formula is better then any other, your child will react differently to each one. Many children will also react differently to concentrate, powder or even ready made. Unfortunitly sometimes formula is a tricky thing as you have to find what works for your LO, and then you have to stik with it.

My hubby found this when we gave our LO formula the first time.

I  couldn't agree more about the Enfamil A+!
We will be trying out the Similac, heard good things about it from others. Anyone ever checked out organic formula? Does it smell/taste okay?

all formula stinks and tastes yuck compared to luscious breast milk! Some are def worse then others but Im pretty sure none smell like roses or taste like chocolate!

LOL Stacy!   ;D  Maybe I am weird, but I sort of liked the taste of regular formula.  But, the hypoallergenic stuff (Alimen and Nutram) taste and smell like rotting dog food.   :P  Bleh!  I honestly gagged when making bottles.  It took me about a month before I no longer smelled the stuff in my house, clothes, and hair.  ;)

Hahahahaha!  Jonahs Mom, that was an awesome little article!  I honestly feel so guilty when I give Kaitlyn a bottle of Nutram.  I am repulsed by the smell!  Anyway, she is liking it a whole lot better today than yesterday.  I think it's because I've started giving her the formula first then my boob.  When it was the other way around she was just plain insulted! ::)
