12 week old ---Night Waking Advice
« on: September 01, 2006, 15:52:53 pm »
Hi
I have a 12 week old sweet boy who's schedule is exactly the 3 hour EASY one Tracy recommends. We do put him to sleep (nap and night) in his crib with the shh/pat method (doing for about a week) and has been working good. Takes about 20 minutes to get him to settle and then I stay in the recommended 20 minutes for him to be full asleep (sometimes it feels like that is all I do...but I know in the end it will be worth it). We are battling the 45 minute nap monster too right now.
Anyways, he has a dreamfeed at 10:30 and the past three nights has woke up at 3:18 (exactly) and I figured he was hungry since it has almost been five hours, but he is only taking 1-2 oz. What should I do? Should I try a W2S or see how "fussy" he may get to see if he puts himself back to sleep....which I doubt he will do because he has never done that before.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yep, if he's waking at exactly the same time like that, give Wake to Sleep a shot!

I would definitely give W2S a shot.  Just go in 1 hour before and stir him.

Thank you for the advice. I will try W2S. I read somewhere (?) that it would most likely take three nights to break (if possible). Does this sound correct?

Usually three nights but it can take up to 7.  If he wakes again in less than an hour though it is hunger so feed him.

Good luck ;D

Our nites are just going bad to worse at the moment think due to reflux problems going on holiday next week so no point in trying anything else till we get back but will  def be using w2s again i think it is brilliant.

So, to be sure I understand b/c I have a similar situation, if this baby were actually drinking a lot of milk at the 3:18 wake up, would it be okay to keep feeding, or would you still try the W2S, based on the idea that the baby should go longer than 5 hours at night at this age?

Thank you.

No if your LO is taking a full feed then continue to feed him, once that amount drops on its own you'll know its time for W2S. Its not uncommon at this age for LO's to need one feed at night. Most cannot go 12 hours without a feed.
