night waking due to ear infection
« on: September 04, 2006, 13:13:30 pm »
Hi,
We are suffering through our first ear infection with our 6 month old.  Can anyone tell me how long the night wakings last after meds are started?  We just got diagnosed yesterday and he had been waking for two nights before that.  So far he has only had  1 and 1/2 doses as he puked up two of them and now I tried to give in breastmilk and he doesn't want that either.  Will keep trying with the breastmilk.  We had just gotten rid of the pacifier and had some great night sleep going when this started. :(
thanks!

The meds normally kick in by the 3rd day but antibiotics can cause problems with sleeping too  ::) I know Ryan has slight tummy upset on antibiotics and this can keep him up at night.

thanks for the info, hopefully within the next few days it gets better.  He has been waking up about every hour 1/2 crying.
I feel so bad for the little guy!  Strangely enough he is still pretty happy during the day though.

I am sure that you are over the worst of it.  I hope so, both my children suffer with ear infections from time to time, due to colds etc, we are all a little susceptible to ear infections and they are not very nice. Childrens Ibuprofen for the pain and  Antibiotics cleared it up in about 3 days.  If your LO gets a cold, be sure to protect those ears when outside, I dread the winter and the wind, and try to keep them dry and just gently clean them with a damp flannel, trying not to let water go in them.
