dropped 4Am feed for the 2Am one??
« on: September 08, 2006, 00:23:35 am »
Hello my LO is 4 and a half months and she use to sleep from DF 10:00pm to 4 Am feed and go right back to sleep until 7Am or 8Am.  Now she has been waking at 2:30 or 3 - 3:30 to feed.  She then goes til 6Am.  She has recently been switched from a 2.5 h to 4 h. easy.  It seems she can only go 4 hours between night feeds where she would go 5 to 6 hours.  She is 15 LBS  she is a 45 min napper and has 4 to 6 45 min naps a day.  Any ideas ???

I think I had the same situation as you when my DS was 4.5 months old.  I believe DS was going through a growth spurt as the early night waking feed last only a week and went back to normal afterwards.  Is your LO taking a full feed at the 2:30am feed?  If so, I'd say she's going through a growth spurt.  If not, it could be habitual waking and you may want to try the wake to sleep method for that.

Hi Nee,
I was just looking up something in my BWSAYP book and came across an example that is similar to your situation.  In the book (I'm paraphrasing and it's pages 197-198) it states that if your LO has slept 5-6 hour stretches at night and was sleeping well and suddenly started waking up and downing both breasts, the cause is a growth spurt.  It is a food problem not a sleep problem.  As a solution, it says to try upping the food intake during the day.  Don't enourage the night time feed as you are setting up a pattern of accidental parenting.
I hope this might help with your night waking.
Mel

She was having a full feed however last night she only nursed on one side.  How do I discourage night feeds?

At 4.5 months she surely still needs at least one night feed - It's too early to try and eliminate them. Is she still having the DF and one other feed, or is it more?

She is having a DF at 10:00 and use to feed at 4 am and 7 Am  but now she is feeding at 2 ot 2:30 and 6 am  Could I try and make her wait will 4 am or should I just feed her and roll with it.

IMO, I would feed her.  If my LO was hungry at 2am, I'd feed as I don't think he'd last until 4am without throwing a temper tantrum.
