How to use white niose?
« on: September 08, 2006, 09:35:49 am »
Hi,

My lo is 10 weeks old, shes sleeping great at night but naps are difficult. I use shh pat but it doesn't always work to get her to sleep so yesterday I tried white noise as she was crying a lot and was very hard to settle. I used the noise of the hairdryer and she settled straight away and fell asleep in her cot but as soon as I turned the hairdryer off she woke and was very upset, I put it back on and she fell asleep instantly again.
Its great that the noise calms her but I don't want it to turn into a prop and it doesn't seem right to keep the noise going for her entire nap.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to use white noise effectively or point me in the direction of where I could find some info on it.
Thanks!
L

Hi Lolly
Have you tried putting the radio on.First put some classical music or something like that and see if it works. My DS also wants noise around him, when he was small we use to play the radio at night in his room...but he has out grown it.Its great now cause you never have to do things softly around him when his sleeping ;D

Hi Dillsmom, thanks for the reply...would that mean I'd have to leave the music on for her whole nap? I'm afraid then she'd be unable to sleep with out it...might try it though - music would be a lot more pleasant for me than a hairdryer!

How about static on the radio, or a fan.  If you want, in a month or so, you can start turning down the volume/speed to try weaning.
When you're soaring through the air, I'll be your solid ground.  Take every chance you dare.  I'll still be there when you come back down.

We use a small desk fan on high.  Just make sure it is not blowing right at her.   :-\ :-\

DS is probably very dependant on the fan, but it is small enough for us to take with us if he needs to sleep someplace else.  Plus most people have fans around their house in case we forget ours.
