Need to up calories during the day
« on: September 11, 2006, 12:04:06 pm »
My 18 month old LO has been waking up more at night. It isn't at the same times, so it isn't habitual. This morning it was 3 times between 3am and 6, our usual wake up time. She then drained both sides, which is unual. So, she was definitely hungry.

My question is, how do I up her calories during the day since she is BF? I am trying to get her on a 4 hour EASY, and if I BF her more we would be back to 3 hours. Any Suggestions?

My 18 month old LO

Typo?

From your ticker, I see your lo is 4 months (plus a little)  This could be a growth spurt... very common time for one.

Check this link in the FAQs:

You also may want to go to a 3 hr EASY for a couple days and then try to move to a 4hr.  Are you cluster feeding?  May want to add a little extra before bed.

HTH, good luck  :-*

Hi there!

I am assuming that you meant to write 18 weeks instead of 18 months!  Because if it was 18 months I would just suggest to up her solid intake during the day to up her calories ...end of story!   :)

However ... for a 4 month old, it is quite possible that she is having a grwoth spurt in which case more frequent feedings is what is neccessary fro a couple of days.  There is some great info in the FAQ section on Growth Spurts.  If after a few days she is still waking then we would have to re-evaluate the situation.

Has she recently started anything new?  Rolling over etc?  That sometimes will disrupt sleep.

Hasn't started anything new really. She has almost rolled over, she just gets stuck on her arm. She is still swaddled for sleep which inhibits alot of movement too.

I'll stick with the 3 hour routine for now and let you know how it goes.... Thanks!!!
