Since Olivia has been on the minadex tonic she is not only eating more she has now started to try new foods that she would not even have touched before. It is strange it seems now that her appetite is growing so is her interest in food. We went shopping yesterday and she was actually excited as she was putting all the food into the trolley, it was great and very nice to see.

Jimbob -
What is Minadex tonic?  I am in the US and am not familiar with it.  Great to hear she is eating better!

Ok, everyone, I need breakfast ideas!  She does not do eggs at all at this point.  The pancakes she loves that I make her at home are on hold until the grocery store restocks the soy yogurt.  I am going to try other pancakes and perhaps she won't care that they are different.  Toast is not well received.  She was eating cold cereal like Cheerios and Life but now is not so into it.  Her appetite in general seems to have decreased recently.  She also has a bad cough so maybe she does not feel well and thus the appetite decrease.  So what do your toddlers eat for breakfast?

Thanks!  :-*

one thing we make for our lo is french toast. i get it all ready from trader joe's (not sure if you have that store) and microwave it and cover it in butter (because our lo needs to gain weight). It's really tasty and i end up eating what he doesn't every morning. also, with the whole scrambled eggs thing, dh added a dash of salt and now our lo loves scrambled eggs.
xoxo.

Minadex tonic is a vitamin and mineral tonic. It contains vitamin A & D, iron, potassium, calcium, manganese sulphate and copper sulphate. It is for after illness, loss of appetite or when run down. According to the pharmacist it is the iron content that increases their appetite.

Dannymomma - Thanks for the suggestion of French Toast.  Duh!  Totally forgot about French toast.  We don't have a Trader Joe's here  :( but I will give it a whirl making from scratch.  If she doesn't like it, I know I will!

Jimbob - Thanks for the information.  My dd is on a daily multi-vitamin that I believe contains those vitamins and minerals.  I have not noticed an increase in appetite though.  :( She was put on this multi-vitamin a while back.

Seriously though everyone, I have been thinking about something a lot.  Whenever I am with my friends and their toddlers and we sit down for a meal, Lucy typically eats more than the other toddlers.  She will sit and graze for a much longer time than the others.  However, she weighs less than any of her friends.  I am really beginning to think that she is just a skinny girl and that is all there is to it.  Compared to her peers, she is not starving herself!  She just does not seem to readily put on weight.  This is the way my dh still is (ba$tard  ;) ), and the way I used to be up until my late 20's.  So perhaps she is just taking after her parents. She was 32 inches last time she was at the doctor's and was 21.5 pounds.  She is getting taller, just not any fatter.

Anyone else feel like they are just fighting a losing battle against nature?

Melissa- I feel very similar to you. Although, my lo just isn't that interested in food. He likes just a couple of things and that is all that he will eat. i bf until my ds was 10 months old and then per the dr. supplemented with formula to get more weight on him. that ended up turning into all formula and he still did not gain what they wanted him to. I agree with you completely in that i think my lo just has a very fast metabolism and will always be leaner. It's nice to know there are others out there because all i hear from strangers is, "wow, he is small!" AND, he's barely below the 50th percentage for height!!! I feel like i'm constantly fighting something that cannot be won by me. although, he is not the greatest night sleeper and sometimes i think it is because he does find himself hungry at night. not sure what to do about that one.
xoxo.

Well, Lucy is also at about the 50th percentile for height but for her weight she was barely at the 10th.

That is really interesting about him not gaining a lot of weight even when on formula.  If he was going to pack on some weight, he definitely would have at that point I would think.  But I am no expert certainly!  Are there certain types of food that he does like?  Lucy will eat fruit like crazy which is great except you don't gain weight from fruit!  Lucy definitely had texture issues with food and still does and it has taken her much longer to accept certain foods because of this.  I would love for her to eat pasta or any kind of bean, but that is not happening yet.

Good to hear from you and be understood!  Thanks for replying!

Hi Melissa - yes, my ds is below the 0% line on weight... even though he started out at the 25% when he was born. I'm glad you are as confused as I am about the weight thing and him not gaining while on formula. WHat my lo will eat:
scrambled eggs, french toast, rice cereal, applesauce, yogurt, cottage cheese (sometimes), tofu (loves this!), o's, goldfish and saltines (sometimes) and that is about it. He used to love black beans but now he's not interested in them. He is a good milk drinker and I had to reduce his intake of that because he would just drink tons and tons... I am now trying to find bland foods to hide in his spoonfed stuff since he seems open to that as long as it tastes the same as it did before I was hiding stuff. I think the most frusturating thing is when we go to the doctor and he explains to me that i need to feed my lo lasagna and other good heavy foods like that. I'm like, "listen pal, i'm trying here! I just have a super picky eater! I'd love for my lo to gain tons of weight... really!"
sorry for the mini-rant.
xoxo.

Lucysmom - we have tried other multivitamins in the past and they did not increase Olivia's appetite, so not really sure why the minadex tonic does but I am just glad it is working.

Jimbob - That is great that the minadex is doing the trick!  Interesting that other multi-vitamins have not helped.

Dannymomma - How annoying is that doctor????>:(  As if suggesting fattening things to increase a child's weight is a revolutionary idea.  HELLO!!!  You're not an idiot!  Sorry for my rant but that is really aggravating for sure.

It sounds like he does eat lots of protein rich foods so it does seem that really he has a quick metabolism.  And I read on here somewhere that when they make up these percentile charts, SOMEBODY has to be on the bottom of the scale!  So our kids are there right now.

Well, Lucy is quite ill AGAIN with some sort of upper respiratory virus so all she is eating is strawberries and one or two pretzels.  She is drinking milk and water.  I am offering everything in hopes something will appeal to her.  You know your child is ill when they don't want to eat cookies!  :'(  So she is losing weight like crazy.  Hopefully we can get it back on her once she is better.

Big Lucy hugs!!!!!!!!!!!
My kid is weird!!!!  The first time she had grapes about 6 months ago or so, she pigged out.  Then never touched them again.  Yesterday she started eating them again.  Just out of the blue.  I sooo don't get it!   ???
