EASY and interruptions
« on: September 12, 2006, 15:57:27 pm »
HI! My LO is 8 weeks and is on 3-3 1/2 hour EASY my question is on days where appts, work get in the way of EASY a bit is it better to go longer between feedings (4 hours) or get a feeding in after 2 hours?? She doesn't get too crabby when she is hungry but I don't want to mess up a good thing!!

Thank you!!

Hi there  :)

EASY is very flexible and in fact the most important aspects of it are that babies don't nurse to sleep and learn to sleep independently.  Also babies thrive from being on a predictable pattern.  It would be very crazy to not be able to go to an appt or to the grocery store because of our lo's routine. But the difference from 2 hours between one feed and 4 the next is a bit much.

She sounds like an angel baby since she doesn't get crabby when she's hungry ( lucky you!  ;D ), but since feeds is one the the most controllable parts of EASY I would try to keep her feeds as stable as possible.

I agree with the PP - EASY is very flexible, however at 8 weeks, your lo does still need to be fed on cue.  You want to make sure that she gets most of her calories during the day, to try and eliminate your night wakings.

It may be easier to try and schedule your appointments etc during nap times where your lo can sleep in her car seat.

Keep us posted and let us know how you are getting on.

Well it wouldn't be every day.  However because of my job there will be times when the option would be either feed early or late and I am curious if one option is better than the other.  Thanks

It is difficult to say.  If you feed earlier - your lo may not be hungry enough to take a full feed and could cause extra night wakings, and if you wait until later, your lo could start getting upset and frustrated due to hunger.

If you did have days where you had appointments etc, could you not try to start your day half an hour earlier?  That may help.
