Night wakings getting worse?
« on: September 13, 2006, 10:22:05 am »
Our 9.5 week has gotten worse with night wakings over the last 2 weeks. At 7 weeks, he used to go to sleep around 8 and then with a dream feed at 11 go until 3 and then wake up around 6. Over the last 2 weeks, this has crept back to waking up at 2, then 4:30, and then a little before 6. His acceptance of dream feeds is pretty hit or miss as well, where he used to take them and gulp them down.

We have noticed a lot of neural development over the last 2 weeks. He is much more aware and interactive. He also eats much more at each feeding, and they are spaced out every 3 hours where they used to be every 2 hours. We have kept the night ritual the same: bath-story-long nursing-bed.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

my ds did exactly the same he is now 12 weeks and we take 1 step forward 2 backwards.  I found that offering him a dummy at waking helped me decided if he was hungry or just waking from habit.  when he regressed first time we did w2s and after the 3 nights he was sleeping till 4am then we had 1 bad night again and he started waking at 1.30 after 10.45 df.  so we are now embarking on w2s once again as often doesn't require a feed till 4/5am.  i never had this problem with my first son he just gradually improved.

Is he eating at each of those wakings? If so, a full feed?

He takes a full feed at the middle of the night one, and a very quick feed at the 4:45/5-am one.

After that quick feed in the early am, does he still take a full feed when he wakes for the day?

I'm having a similar problem with my 9 wk old too!!  And last week she was sleeping thru the night and/or down to 1 feed....now 2 feeds are back.  She seems to stir a lot more too.

Whatever you end up doing I might have to try as well!

LOL, my DS is a piglet too, always has been. If he's taking full feeds including that first morning feed, then he's definitely hungry. You might try cluster feeding in the evening to get some more calories in him before bed.

We cluster feed left and right. Little piglet (aka chunko) eats whatever is put in front of him. We even feed him at 6 and then 7:30 and then right before bed at 8:30 and he still wakes! Ugh...

He was born 6 lbs 7 ounces (2.5 weeks early), and came home 6 lbs. At his 2 months visit, he was 12.5 lbs. He is on an aggressive growing schedule and is also tall at 23.5 inches.
